16. WE STAY IN A CASINO

After confessing to Percy my life, it was silent.

I was pretty tired from watching Percy cry about my pathetic life. I didn't go to sleep though, I couldn't. I was plagued with nightmares because the gods loved to torment me.

'Try not to get this one killed'

Percy glared over at Ares. Why did he have to feed into Summer's insecurities?

Those seven words rang through my head on repeat. I must have had a look on my face, because Percy looked over and said, "It wasn't your fault."

I looked up at him confused. "What are you talking about?"

"You're friend." Percy said. "Davis."

I winced at his name. Nobody else ever really said it, it was mostly just me, and I rarely ever said it. I shrugged, avoiding eye contact.

"It was Zeus's." He continued. "Summer look at me."

Reluctantly, I glanced at him, holding my breath, trying to suppress my tears that were building up.

"It wasn't your fault."

"She shouldn't have to have been told that." Rigel said sticking up for his cousin.

"I know." Percy mumbled. "Gods I know."

"It was my dad." I said in a hoarse voice.

"Hm?"

I rubbed my face harshly. "It was my dad who sent them. They were order to take out Davis, and Zeus sent some for me as well. I forgave my dad though, because you know, that's my dad. But it's my fault! If I had been quicker he wouldn't have felt the need to turn and cause a distraction!"

Percy looked at me, walking on his knees to sit in front of me. "Summer, it wasn't your fault. It was nobody's fault. You've already forgiven your dad, but Summer-"

"What do you want from me, Jackson?" I hissed.

Percy looked at me, giving me a sad look. "Summer, did you forgive yourself?"

I looked at my shaking hands, then up at the boy in front of me. I glanced at Annabeth and Grover making sure they were asleep, and then I cried. 40 something years worth of tears, I cried out onto Percy Jackson's shoulder.

The wizards and Demi-gods gave Summer heartbroken stares. She should have to be strong for that long. She was child. She need to be safe, not strong.

Apparently I had fallen asleep, because I woke up to banging on the side of the truck.

"What?"

"What banging?" One of the guys yelled.

He exited the truck, Annabeth suddenly appeared next to Grover. "This transport business can't legal."

"No kidding," Grover snorted, and for a very lovey anxious little guy, he looked murderous. "The lion says that these guys are animal smugglers!"

"The what?" Ron asked.

"The lion."

"The zebra spoke to me."

"That's because your dad is the horse dude."

"The horse dude?" Poseidon asked.

"We've got to free them." Grover said and he and Annabeth looked towards Percy for guidance.
