Everyone knows that not getting something or someone is really a pain in the ass. This goes for Mary, who is obsessed with Joseph, eventhough she came out as bisexual last year [ this is a headcanon btw]. She vowed to not stop till she wins over his heart unfortunately, it hasnt been going well for her.
"Michi, just do this one favour for me please?? My dad keeps pushing me to find an heir to the fortune."
"Cant you be the heir? I mean you are the sole heir to the fortune also you have so many fans. Why cant you just choose one of them?"
"Girl, you aint helping. Joseph is a high-profile Count. His brother isnt home and is studying abroad since both of them cant focus when being together." Mary said while rolling her eyes.
"Well maybe just find another person to be with you know? It's not like Joseph HAS to be the only one that your father favours." Galatea spoke up.
Mary just waved them off and left the classroom. She mumbled to herself that she would win Joseph's heart and finally able to keep her father from pestering her to find an heir. She would say her father is old fashioned and believes only men can take over the family fortune and name. She is in her own little world until she bumped into someone.
"Oof. Oh sorry." Mary shook her head and tlit it upwards to see who she bumped into.
"Ah it's alright." said a male voice which sounds gentle yet solid. He was carrying a few books before bumping into Mary.
As Mary looked up to see a charming guy with ivory long hair and crystal blue eyes. Her eyes widened immediately and panicked.
"O-Oh J-Joseph! Didnt see you there.." she stammered while trying to get back on her feet.
"It's fine really. Also have you seen Aesop? I wanted to return these to him since he lent me these books a few days ago."
Mary's face turned sour at the sound of Aesop's name being mentioned. She didnt like how Joseph didnt pay much attention to her despite the number of hints she left and her efforts of trying to win his heart. But this ends now, her desperation to get rid of Aesop grew and she thought of a plan.
"Hey? Earth to Mary." Joseph said while snapping his fingers. "You ok? Looks like you dozed off for a bit there" He held out his hand to help her up.
"Im fine. Excuse me." Mary left in a hurry. Before she gone far, she heard a familiar voice calling Joseph's name. "Oh hey there you are, here are the books that you've lent me."
"Oh ok." Aesop took the books from his arms. "So any plans for today after school?" Joseph gave Aesop a nuzzle on his forehead and said "Not really. If anything comes to mind just let me know ok?" Aesop nodded and they parted ways.
Mary, on the other hand, has heard everything and she smiled sinisterly.
No plans ey? I'll give you one.
-------------------------------------
Mary hurriedly walked back to the classroom and sat down. She brushed her friends off when they asked her to come along to the cafeteria. No, Mary's mind is busy, stirring whatever idea she has and writing them down on a piece of paper. She came up with several ideas which didnt satisfy her standards. Then she heard some students arguing in the hallway. She walked over and poked her head slightly at the door.
"THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!! WHY CANT YOU JUST LISTEN TO ANYTHING I HAVE TO SAY?!"
"I'M NOT LISTENING??? TELL THAT TO YOUR ADDICTION WITH THE PHONE! Ever since you have met this 'friend' of yours, YOU DIDNT BOTHER PAYING ANY ATTENTION TO ME!"
"WHAT 'FRIEND'?? I HAVENT BEEN TALKING TO ANYONE BESIDES YOU AND A FEW MORE! TALK ABOUT YOUR INSECURITY"
Insecurity? Is that all it takes?
Mary backed away from the door and sighed. If this one insecurity of a person can really screw up a friendship then what more to say on a relationship. She giggled. An fabulously evil idea popped right into her head.
Mary quickly jot down everything which she needs to execute her plan.
1. Ask anyone who knows what Aesop's insecurity is.
2. Find a way to implement that insecurity into Joseph and Aesop's relationship.
3. Make it way worse than it is
4. Make sure Joseph finds comfort in me while not trying to arouse suspicion.
Mary laughed to herself while she is writing her plan. She never felt this proud since she won that horse racing competition at a national level. All she has to do now is to get her friends to help her as well.
Michiko and Galatea were both enjoying their meal when they saw Mary skipping happily towards them.
"Why does she look so happy all of a sudden? She brushed us off earlier." Michiko whispered to Galatea. She only nodded in agreement.
Mary reached their table and sat down while still having that smile pasted on her face.
"Well guess what your genius bestie has come up with?" Mary chirped.
"Something to do with winning that Count's heart? We all know where this is going.." Galatea crossed her arms.
"Yes but I'm telling you this is worth your time and effort. In return, I'll treat the both of you anything you want for a day."
Michiko and Galatea exchanged glances and considered her proposal.
"Tell us the plan first then we can decide whether or not we wanna help." Michiko demanded.
Mary placed the paper that she wrote the plan on and explained while they read.
"So? Whacha girls think huh? Simple but painful."
"Are you sure you wanna go through with this? If anything happens, it's irreversible."
Mary nodded excitedly. "Alright fine. We'll go through with this BUT you'll have to treat us for 3 days in exchange. Take it or leave it."
Mary rolled her eyes. "Ok fine. It's a deal"
The three of them left the cafeteria and headed back to the classroom.
---------------------------------------
Class starts as usual but the 3 girls hardly paid any attention as they are making their move according to the plan. They asked several students around their tables and none of them seems to know the answer. The lesson was over by then and they made their move to the other side of the classroom. They did make sure Aesop wasnt near any of them and the other side of the room.
They walked over to where Eli, Naib and Norton were sitting.
"Ok guys I wanna ask you three a question." Mary spoke up.
The three guys looked at each other and nodded.
"What is Aesop most scared about?"
The atmosphere was getting awkward when Naib spoke.
"We arent so sure to be honest. Aesop wasnt really open with us about himself. That wasnt always the case."
"Yeah that's true. Not until he started dating that hot shot." Norton said.
"We tried to invite him to out with us cuz he hasnt been spending much time. I mean he did when we were in middle school. We do miss him. Barely exchanged a couple words and he sped off at the sound of his boyfriend calling his name." Eli ranted and Brooke was still fast asleep under the table, cooing.
"Do you guys still consider Aesop to be your friend?" Galatea asked.
"I mean he still is but right now, Im not so sure.." Norton's voice trailed off.
"Im not speaking on behalf of anyone here but he is getting more distant from us" Eli's face dropped.
As Naib opened his mouth to speak, the teacher walked in and they went back to their seats.
Aesop's Insecurity: Losing his friends to his relationship (just a theory). Mary wrote on the paper.
"I have to test whether my theory is right or not by talking to him." Mary mumbled under her breath. She waited till it was lunch break to ask him.
----------------------------------
Aesop got up from his seat and walked to the door. That's when Mary quickly stopped him."Hey Aesop, can I ask you something?" Mary asked sheepishly.
"Mhm yeah. What is it?" Aesop replied with a bit of confusion.
"So I was wondering if you are going out with friends later. Joseph implied that he wanted to invite me to go out with him but I suppose he had better things to do. An invitation from a Count sounds fancy enough for me, dont you think?"
"Um Joseph asking you out? That cant be possible. He just asked me this morning."
"Well he is the Count after all. He can have anyone he wants. But he decided to choose you instead. Lucky guy if you ask me."
Aesop's face turned red. He doesnt know if this is from embarrassment or anger. There's one thing that he is certain, Joseph wont betray him like this. Not over a girl who has the same status as him and kinda spoiled too.
"Aww, turning red already? I dont wanna interfere with your relationship with him but such a shame."
His eyes were filled with tears.
"Wait wait dont cry now honey. We dont want your lover to be worried now, do we? Tell you what, I'll go out with him and for there you can see his true colours. Whether he is loyal to you or not."
Aesop didnt wanna hear another thing which came out from her and pushed her to the side.
"Excuse me I have to go."
Before actually leaving, Mary grabbed his shoulder and whispered in his ear. "How about you? If this is how to react to Joseph's betrayal, how would your friends react when they realize: 'Aesop isnt gonna remember us. is he?' "
She let go of his shoulder and he left with tears and a puffy face. He pulled his mask over and put on his hoodie to hide the tears.
How did Mary know about my insecurity?
