Y/N POV

I watched the police and hybrid team leave the building, none of them seeming to pay much more attention to me. There was no way I was off the hook that easy. Surely not?

Every single part of my body felt like jelly. Not even that, jelly that had been set in the fridge, and then blended up into a goopy mess and left in the sun. All I could do was focus on my breathing as I leaned back in my chair. I needed a moment to myself.

My wobbly legs managed to get my body out of my chair and I stumbled towards the bathroom. I pushed myself into a stall and locked the door, collapsing onto the closed toilet lid. It was now that my body let out all of the panic that had built up inside.

The air felt thick and my lungs struggled to get any breath inside of them. My heart felt like it was going to explode and my head throbbed. I couldn't believe that I was so close to losing everything. Lucas was rich, his family was powerful, and Taehyung was an extremely rare, and no doubt expensive breed.

There was no uncertainty in my mind that Lucas would lay as many charges as he could against me if he found that I had been hiding his hybrid. I had made him lose his stupid bet, and I had been the cause of his lost hybrid. I would be done for.

And yet, I couldn't find myself wanting to give Taehyung up. The thought of sending the poor man back to his 'master' felt sickening, I could practically taste the bile in my throat as I recalled him calling Lucas that. Not to mention the fact that he was being forced to breed.

After a few minutes, I finally managed to calm myself down. I forced myself to accept the fact that the police team couldn't smell Taehyung on me. Everything was fine. We passed the test. I was going to move houses, get a new job, then all of this would be behind us.

I let myself out of the bathroom stall, walking up to the mirror to fix my appearance. My shaking hands smoothed down my hair, fixed my shirt, and wiped away the tear tracks. Everything is okay. Everything is okay.

I forced myself to walk out of the bathroom.
Go back to your desk, get on with your work.

My little plan was ultimately thrown out the window though when Lucas stopped me in my tracks.

"Hey Y/N, you alright?" he put on a look of concern, but I could see right through it.

"Yeah, I'm all good! I just had a fight with one of my hybrids last night and it's been a rough morning" I lied, putting on my best 'pity me, my life is hard' voice.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I thought you didn't look too good before..." he trailed off, his acting was almost as good as mine.
"Did you want some company tonight? Maybe you need a break from being surrounded just by hybrids."

"Sorry, you know I have a boyf-"

"Of course, of course. It's alright, I don't have any intentions like that. I just meant as friends. We could just spend some time at your place, that way your hybrids can chaperone. I'll even order food for all of us, my treat!" Lucas flashed a smile, but made sure to keep his eyes drooped sadly.

Was this his plan? To go to my house himself to check if Taehyung was there? Surely he could just get that police squad to go over there, but then again maybe they would need a warrant or something like that. And technically there's no probable clause or suspicion on me, I was cleared by the hybrid team.

"If you really wanted to hang out we could go to your house maybe? Mine's a bit full with my pack being there and all..."

Lucas let out a long dramatic sigh, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I was just really hoping to get out of the house, you know. It's horrible walking past Taehyung's room when I don't even know if he's alive or not..."
