"so, you like amelia's granddaughter? finley?" darry asked as I walked out from showering. "what? no," I said. "you sure? it seems like you do," he said. "she's only here for summer, wouldn't matter if I did," I replied and sat on the couch putting my hat on.

"so what?" he asked. "darry it'd never work out it'd only be a summer fling," I said. "so have a summer fling, no strings attached," he said. "I know you like your girls sodapop," he winked.

"shut up," I said. "besides finley is actually really nice, really smart too, I wouldn't wanna have a summer fling, I'd probably fall in love or something," I said. "you do like to pick the complicated ones," he said. "kinda my thing," I said. "soda let's go we got work," steve said walking in the house. "oh yeah, darry you seen my pants?" I asked. "ironed 'em there in my closet," he said. "how 'bout my shirt?" I asked "closet," he said.

finley's pov

"if you think he's so great you date him," I said as I tied my converse. "that's weird and illegal," gran said. "gran I do think he's great, but I'm not gonna date anybody just to leave at the end of the summer," I said.

"summer fling fin, it's the definition of hooking up all summer, then leaving like it never happened," she said. "sodapop is too perfect and sweet to have a summer fling with, I'd fall in love and be miserable once I left," I said. "well, if you can already see how perfect he is, you've already taken a step in the wrong direction hun," she said.

"I'm not gonna fall for him, I've known him for a week," I said. "now let's go before someone takes all the coke," I said and opened the door. "alright," she said and walked out. we went to the dx and I grabbed two things of coke and set it on the counter. "how ya doin finley?" sodapop asked. "good, how're you?" I asked. "great, this all?" he asked.

"yes," I said and handed him the money. "thanks," I said and went to walk out. "hey finley," he said and I turned toward him. "yeah?" I asked. "me and the guys were gonna go catch a movie at the drive in tonight if you wanna join us," he said. "what time?" I asked.

"around 8," he said. "yea sure," I said. "I'll stop by and get ya," he said. "sounds good," I smiled and walked out. "smile alert smile alert," gran said. "I'm smiling because he's my friend," I said.

"soon to be lover," she replied. I glared at her. "are we taking grandpa lunch?" I asked. "yep, let's go," she said. "hey grandma," I said. "you never call me that what do you want?" she asked. "can I drive?" I asked. "if you crash you're paying for the car," she said. "YES," I said and got out of the car.

"what're you smilin' at?" steve asked. "what? nothing," I said, clearing my throat. "sure buddy," he said. "you invite her to the movie tonight?" he asked. "yeah," I said. "date?" he asked. "nah, just friends," I said. "for now," he laughed.

"what is it with everyone suddenly wanting us to date?" I asked. "nothin' we can all just see the spark," he said. "whatever you say," I shrugged.

"why did I let them talk me into this?" I whispered to myself, walking up the steps to pick up finley. I looked at the flowers in my hand. "idiot," I said and knocked on the door. she opened it and smiled. "hey, these are for you," I said and handed the flowers too her. "thank you," she said. "come in, sorry I'm running a little late,"

"it's all good," I said. "hi amelia," I said and waved at her. "hi sodapop," she said. finley put the flowers in a vase and tied her shoes. "ready?" I asked. "ready," she said. "bye gran,"

"have fun," amelia said. "see ya," I said. we walked mostly in silence to the movie, I snuck her under the fence and we went to sit with the guys and evie. "thank you," she said as I let her in before me. "course," I said. steve winked at me and I hit his arm. everyone was trying to get me to make a move on her. I refused.

she was real pretty, beautiful. really sweet, funny, her accent was great, but I didn't want nothin' serious just for her to leave again.

about 30 minutes into the movie I couldn't hold still anymore. "hey what do you say we get out of here and get some shakes at dingos?" I whispered to her. "sure," she said. "excuse me," I said grabbing her hand and walking out of the isle.

"where ya goin?" ponyboy asked. "dingos, can't hold still," I said. he nodded. we weren't far from dingos but we couldn't drive.

"so uh you got your eye on any of the guys?" I asked. then mentally slapped myself in the face. "uh not really, I kinda swore off guys this summer, since I'm leaving anyway," she said. I nodded. "not into a summer fling kind of thing?" I asked. "I'm the type of person who falls in love really easily, if I had a summer fling I'd accidentally fall in love," she shrugged. "that's how I am too," I said.

"what's the point in dating if it isn't to see a future with the person you know?" I asked. "yeah, exactly, I'm thinking I might move back here for college in the fall, but that would be a long time even then," she said. "yeah I get that, my ex sandy moved away to florida, I thought I could make it work but she ended up cheating," I said.

"my ex cheated on me too, I'm sorry," she said. "all good," I smiled and we arrived at dingos, not saying much after that.
