two weeks later

"look there he is!" I said to gran. "I know what your brother looks like finley," she laughed. jackson walked up to us and I hugged him tightly, as did gran. "I missed you" I signed. "I know I'm irresistible" he signed.

"let's go you two" gran signed. "should we go to dingo or home?" I said to gran. "I'll drop you both off I have errands to run," she said.

when we got back, I took jackson's bag to his room because he wanted to make food. I heard a knock on the door and went over and opened it. "hey sodapop," I said. "hey sorry to barge in, you mind if I eat here for lunch? steve's driving me crazy," he asked. "of course," I laughed. "come in,"

"jackson this is sodapop" I said. "sodapop?" he signed. I nodded. "hi sodapop," jackson said. sodapop looked at me. "this is my brother jackson," I said. "nice to meet you" sodapop signed sloppily. "does he know asl?" jackson asked. I shook my head no. "I taught him a few signs" I said. "oh I see" he said.

"sodapop's gonna eat lunch with us," I said. "ok," jackson said. "he's quiet, he'll warm up to you," I smiled at sodpaop. he nodded. we made sandwiches and had chips and coke. "sodapop what you do fun?" jackson asked. sodapop looked confused. "he means what do you do like for fun," I said.

"I like to fix cars and play football, play cards," he said. I translated to jackson. "I like him are you dating?" jackson signed. "no jackson" I signed and he laughed. "you should date he's cute" he joked. "screw you" I said laughing. gran walked in and saw sodapop, smiling immediately. "future boyfriend," gran signed. "yes," jackson said. "I approve,"

"I'm leaving," I rolled my eyes. "sodapop I'll walk you back to work," I said. "oh perfect thank you," he smiled. "let's go, see you later hate you both," I said. "use protection," jackson said.

we walked out of the house and I died laughing. "what?" sodapop asked. "let's just say jackson likes you," I said. "well that's good," he laughed. "I don't really need to be back to work yet," he said. "yeah sorry jackson's annoying so I wanted to get out of there," I laughed.

"well what do you wanna do?" he asked. "up to you," I said. "follow me then," he said holding his arm out. I grabbed it with both of my arms and followed him. he took me to a little river by my grans house. "I don't bring people here ever so you're a lucky gal," he said. "oh I feel very lucky darling," I said.

DARLING?

oh god.

"good," I smiled. "you're brother seems super nice," I said. "yeah he's the best, annoying, but the best," she said. "don't worry I have two brothers plus an extra four, I get it," I laughed. she laughed. "he can be a git sometimes but we get along enough," she said. "yeah I know what you mean," I said.

she unlaced her converse and took them off to put her feet in the water. I did the same. "do you ever feel like nobody really knows anything about you?" she asked. "like truly knows,"

"all the time," I said and she laid back. "ever since my parents died it's almost as if all I'm here for is to make peace between darry and ponyboy," I said, laying back next to her. "even before my mum died my dad used me as his punching bag, it got so much worse after she died," she said.

"yeah, and then the one person I thought understood all of it is the one that left me in the dust, like I never meant anything at all, I was just arm candy for her," I said. "exactly, you find someone you can finally tell and then they leave," she said. "I don't know why I'm telling you all of this," she sighed. "I won't be like whoever left you, I mean we're friends right?" I asked.

"yeah, friends," she smiled. "I won't be like whoever left you either, for the record, I know I'm leaving at the end of summer but I'll be back to visit," she said.

"yeah, me either, I never want anybody to be able to say I'm anything like sandy," I said. "is that your ex?" she asked. I nodded. "well, it's her loss not yours, if she doesn't care enough to be loyal to you or work things out, she's not the one," she said.

"yeah thanks finley, and I don't know what kind of idiot would let you go, but he ain't worth it," I said. oh shit. that probably sounded flirty. am I flirting right now?

"thank you sodapop," she said and smiled. "I don't usually talk to people about it, so thanks for listening," she added and sat up. "anytime, I might not know much but I'll always listen to ya," I said and took my feet out of the water to put my shoes back on as she did the same.

"I gotta get back to work, you want me to walk ya home first?" I asked. "no I'll walk you to work then walk him it's ok," she said. "ya sure?" I asked. "positive," she said. "whatever you say gray," I said.

finley's pov

gray. why does him saying my last name make my insides turn?

when I got home I closed the door and leaned against it. I couldn't help but keep smiling. "have fun?" gran asked. I nodded. jackson walked down the stairs and leaned against the wall. "he seems nice" he said. "he is nice" I said. "do I need to be ready to fight him?" he asked. "I don't think so," I said. "you like him?" he asked. "I don't know," I said.

"well I like him if that helps," he said and went upstairs. "I told you," gran said. I smiled and rolled my eyes. "I don't think I like him," I said. "maybe,"
