it was your first day by yourself at your job at the local coffee shop, the weathervane. tyler had trusted you to work the first shift by yourself since you had completed your training. you were nervous. not only was it your first day by yourself, but you were still pretty new to this town having just moved here about three weeks ago.

the day was pretty slow with only a few scattered people coming in and out. you were out in the dining area wiping off tables when the bell above the door rang, signaling that someone entered the shop. it tore you out of your thoughts. your eyes were met with a tall, lanky, but built, guy around your age. he had long hair that stopped at his shoulders. you couldn't lie, he was very attractive. he wore a nevermore hoodie. all your classmates from your new 'normie' school warned you about all the 'outcasts' that went there. they said all kind of horrible things about them. that they were freaks, and that them and their school ruined this town.

you walked behind the counter wiping your hands on your apron as you situated the register. even though you didn't believe a word your classmates said, you couldn't help but worry that he would be mean.

"welcome to the weathervane what can i get you?" you asked.

"can i just get a large americano" he responds kindly.

"yep, and will that be all for you?"

"yes ma'am."

"okay. that will be $4.50. what's the name for the order?"

"xavier"

you start to make his coffee when he breaks the awkward silence.

"so.... you must be new, i haven't seen you around here before." he says.

shocked that he even talked to you considering you are a 'normie' you continued the conversation. "yeah, i just moved here. you must go to nevermore?" you ask curiously.

"yes, how'd you know, are you stalking me?" he says with a smirk on his face.

"in your dreams. it's on your shirt moron." you reply gesturing to his nevermore hoodie while snapping the lid onto his coffee.

he chuckles. "what's your name?"

"y/n" you reply. "you're not a scary as everyone at my school makes you guys out to be." you say as you hand his coffee to him.

"oh no trust me, i'm terrifying." he says sarcastically.

"very." you giggle.

he reaches over the counter and hands you a $20 bill. "here's your tip." he says with a grin.

"ya know, most people just use the tip jar." you say jokingly unimpressed.

"well it's a special tip for the most beautiful barista." he says as he walks out the door.

you look down and unfold the $20 bill. a small piece of paper falls to the floor. you reach down and pick it up.

the rest of the day a smile was plastered on your face. unbothered by the fact xavier goes to nevermore, you couldn't wait to see where this would lead.
