Chapter 7
“So Josh where is she going to sleep?” Corlynn smiled to me as she grabbed my bag from my hand and placed it on the bench by the front door.
“She can stay in my room.” Corlynn looked shocked as she looked up to Josh who towered over her. “I’ll sleep on the floor. Don’t worry mom, we aren’t like that.” She winked and smiled.
“Sure as hell hope not. You know Amanda called yesterday.” I watched Josh roll his eyes to his mother behind her back. “She misses you.”
“Mom I told you I was done with her. Now can we change the subject?” Corlynn nodded.
“How about you go clean up your room and Porcelain and I will start on dinner. Your dad should be home soon.”
“Sure.” Josh smiled to me then wandered off into the hall. Once he was gone I followed his mom into the kitchen where she had already set out everything she needed to make dinner. I sat on a bar stool and smiled to Corlynn.
“What’s on your mind sweetie?” I shook my head.
“I was just wondering how Josh… How he got so into the drugs if he has such an amazing family.” She nodded while cutting up some cucumbers.
“It was actually a party, and you should know, once you’re pulled in you get attached.”
“Yeah, but I mean why would he even consider it?”
“I have no idea. That’s something you’d have to ask him.” I spread a fake smile on my face and hopped off the stool.
“What can I do?”
“Could you set the table for me?” I nodded and grabbed the five plates off the counter. After placing them on the table in the dining room I headed back to the kitchen to find Josh talking to his mom. “Sarah’s coming over for dinner.”
“Hey Porce, can I call you that?” I nodded and rubbed my arms, regretting it once again. “Are you okay?” I nodded again and waved to Josh as an indicator to carry on. “Want to take your stuff down stairs and I can show you where you’re staying?”
“Are you okay if I do that?” Corlynn smiled and waved me out of the room. I smiled in return then followed Josh to the basement stairs.
“I know it seems creepy but trust me. It becomes cozy after a while.” He winked making me feel uncomfortable. He led me down the stairs and to the right where a door that was just tall enough for Josh to get through was placed. “It’s cleaner than usual.” Josh opened the door and his somewhat predictable room was standing before me. It was still messy but I’d get over that. There were a couple posters of older bands on his wall and a few guitars were standing in the corner of his room.
“I’d like to hear you play the guitar once.”
“Really?” I nodded.
“Yeah, I’ve heard your singing and it’s great, but you could use a little….help.” I winked and picked up an acoustic guitar.
“Do you play?”
“Nope, tried it once and after one class my dad pulled me out because we had to move.”
“Oh well I could teach you if you wanted.” I nodded.
“That’d be fun.”
“You can have the bed; I’ll occupy the floor in the corner over there and well yeah.” I nodded and looked around.
“Are you sure you’re okay on the floor? I mean it looks painful.” Josh laughed a bit then nodded.
“I’ll be fine.” I heard a door open upstairs and turned my head to the sound. “It’s probably just my dad.” Josh looked down to his hands for a minute then looked up to me and smiled. “Can I talk to you?”
