The Eons Book Two-Chapter Five:
I waited until I was sure it was safe. I snuck to Bane’s room and knocked on the door. Bane came out holding her bag and car keys. We woke up Calypso and Charlotte. The four of us carried our bags out to Bane’s pink Volkswagen Bug. I threw our bags in the trunk and joined Calypso in the back seat. The drive was going to be a long one.
“So Calypso, how’s Alec holding up. You know, with his cousins missing and everything?” I asked trying to make conversation.
“He has been really stressed lately. His cousins went on vacation in Nevada and they never came home. With Jypsie dying a few years ago, his aunt and cousins were the only family he had left,” Calypso said looking out the window.
“Does he have any idea what happened?” I ask. This could be part of the greater evil Wasseem mentioned on his last visit.
“No. Like I said, they just never came home. It’s been almost two months since they left. He is really starting to panic.” The car ride may have been long but the time was covered talking about a range of things from Alec to prom dresses. Charlotte remained silent. For a while I thought she was asleep. Eventually we pulled up to the remains of an abandoned government building.
“We’re here,” I said throwing open my door. Calypso grabbed her computer and several other high tech items from the trunk. She began hooking this up to the giant metal plates and typing vigorously on her laptop. I came and sat next to Charlotte on the ground. “Are you sure you’re ready to give up your soul ?” I asked.
“Yeah. Don’t worry I read up on the ritual on the way here. You just need to accompany me into the Pit I have it from there.” She said smiling.
“Okay if you’re sure,” I said watching the sun come up over the ruined horizon. I’m sure it was beautiful once upon a time. I looked at Charlotte. She’d retained a lot of Char’s features. She turned to look at me with a knowing look in her eyes.
“I’m going to tell you a secret. Only because it pertains to you. Ari is still madly in love with you and you are still in love with him so why don’t the two of you just make out already?” Charlotte smiled. She was serious too. I could barely speak. Did everyone know this and now she gets voted to tell me?
“Thanks but I’m just not sure we were meant for eachother.” I tried to force a smile. Then the entirely unexpected happened. Charlotte kissed my cheek softly.
“ I wasn’t sure I was gay at first because I always had a thing for you but when you and Ari started dating I knew you were meant for eachother.” As I was about to reply Calypso opened the Pit. I grabbed my knives and strapped on my holster. We walked quickly to where Calypso sat on the ground by the Pit. I nodded to her and we walked down slowly into the deep depths of Hell. The smoke cleared to reveal a basic Egyptian work camp only thrown into the 21st Century. I picked Vlad out of a crowd of guys, meaning he was still here. Only he was still seventeen, while the rest of us had aged, Vlad had not. I was almost his age now. We approached the council house. The Grand Council sat perched on chairs made to look like thrones. I knelt and bowed. Charlotte followed suit.
“What brings you here young wench?” boomed the voice of the black robed figure in the middle.
“I come as a sacrifice for the return of Vladmire Todd to the natural world,” Charlotte said. I watched the council members converse.
“Sacrifice accepted. You, with the knives, you may go. Take Vladmire with you,” the same voice boomed. I hugged Charlotte and left the council house. Vlad was walking towards me when I left. I just took his arm and lead him up to the real world. Once the Pit was closed he spoke again.
“Wow Falcon, you grew up,” Vlad said. I had never really noticed how black his eyes were.
“Yeah. Vlad it’s been two years. I’m sixteen.” I didn’t know if he had any knowledge of how much time was passing. Calypso closed the Pit and gathered her stuff.
“Do the guys know where you are?” He asked as we loaded the stuff into the bug.
“No. Alec and Ash are probably worried out of their minds.” I said climbing into the back seat with him. He understood then that Ari and I didn’t really work out. He had gotten paler while he was living in Hell. “Are you feeling okay? You look a bit pale.” He laughed a little bit. It was good to see him laugh. After that the tension in the car lessened. We talked and joked around until we pulled into the back driveway. Ash was standing at the door.
“Great,” Bane said rolling her eyes. This night was about to get really bad. I could tell Ash was mad before we even walked in the door.
“Prepare for the worst,” I whispered to Vlad. He smiled like an idiot. I saw Ari in the kitchen. Instinctively I grabbed Vlad’s hand. Ari glared at us when he saw our hands. We didn’t even get into the door, Ash came out screaming.
“What the hell were you thinking? Falcon I know this was your idea! You drag my girlfriend to the Northwest Territories in the middle of the night for some hair brained scheme that might not even work! You can’t do things by the book can you?” Ash’s face was very red.
“Why don’t you just shut up Ash? They did this for me,” Vlad said releasing my hand and taking a step forward.
“Why don’t all of you just calm down? It’s really early in the morning and we all need some rest,” Calypso said opening the door to the house.
“Seriously. Ash, I went on this trip willingly. Everything is fine,” Bane followed Calypso into the house. Vlad and I were left standing outside with Ash.
“This isn’t over,” he grumbled. I let out a sigh of relief. Bane’s boyfriend could be a total pain in the ass sometimes. We walked into the kitchen where Ari still sat brooding. He glared at Vlad and I just walked upstairs. If they were going to fight, I didn’t want to be around. I changed into my pajamas and just went to sleep.
