The Eons Book Two-Chapter One:
Falcon's POV
“I’m just saying you’re spending so much time on this ritual thing takes away from our time together,” Ari said taking my arm.
“Ari it’s important to me, and I thought it was important to you. In a few weeks I will have everything I need to finish up the research,” I reply. We’d been having this same argument for a month. Ever since Vlad had died 2 years ago and I got a computer, I’d been researching a horror death ritual called transuerso mortis, it reversed death. However there had been some minor complications, like it required a soul for a soul.
“Well I just want the old, less stressed out you back,” he says trying to restore order to my world.
“Why, so I’ll spend the night on your floor? Ari if that’s all you want than I am not speaking with the guy I know, and also fell in love with,” I say, edging the argument on.
“If you think that’s all I want then you don’t know me anymore,” he drops his hands to his side.
“Maybe I don’t know you Ari,” I am tired and crying.
“Then maybe we’re done, us, we’re over,” Ari leaves my room and slams the door behind him. I cannot fight the tears that well in my eyes. I close the laptop silently, turning the whole room dark. I slept in fits that night.
When I woke up the world wasn’t much better than when I left it last night. Ash was calling for third watch, which was me and Ari. I walked down stairs and there stood everyone who lived in the house, minus Ari, in front of a cake. It read Happy 16 Birthday Falcon, in green icing.
“Thank you so much!” I said hugging each of them. “We’ll eat after third watch okay?” I ran back up to my room to change. I came back down pulling a sweat shirt over my head. Ari followed about 10 minutes later. We grabbed our weapons, Ari’s Xiphos and my throwing knives. We walked outside in complete silence. The watch lasted for half an hour; I had a feeling not too many words would be exchanged in that time.
For the first fifteen minutes I was right. Then we saw a girl with long, straight, blonde hair with bangs cut to cover her forehead. She was wearing skin tight jeans, a lace shirt, and converse. Ari saw her and his jaw dropped. “Close your mouth,” I said, “you’ll catch flies.” I was the first to approach her. “Hi my name is Falcon Mirabella, and you are?” I was attempting to deduce if she was one of us or if she was the first of the ‘worse evils’ Waseem had warned us about.
“Hello Falcon, I’m Charlotte, no last name, just Charlotte,” She smiled sweetly.
I couldn’t place my finger on where I had heard that before, so I let it go for now. Ari walked her back to the house and I recognized the glances at her butt. Ari liked what he saw. I didn’t beat myself up too much, I had to focus on my watch but I knew Bane and Calypso would notice and question me about this new girl and Ari.
I finished up the last of the watch by myself, which Ash forbade. I went back inside and tried to smile through the gifts and cake. We took several pictures and then the rest of the watches proceeded as normal. We no longer had constant watch over the house at night because it had been 2 years since a serious attack had ripped up our little world. After dinner and some x-box with Alec and Calypso, I went for a walk, and took my knives upon insistence from Ash. I climb up one of the trees and just sat and watched. After an hour Ari and Charlotte came out, holding hands. Charlotte kissed Ari and whispered something, he laughed. What was he doing? He had just met this girl 4 hours ago, and now he was all over her.
Ash yelled at them to come inside. Ari looked heavily embarrassed, but I stayed hidden. Ash just walked inside looking over the forest. He knew I was out here, and he knew keeping me in the same room with Ari was a bad idea, so he just walked away. I spent that night in a tree.
I woke up in time for third watch and jumped out of the tree. “Where’d she come from?” Charlotte asked sweetly from beside Ari.
“Why is she here?” I asked through clenched teeth. So she got under my skin, it irked me.
“She’s third watch with us now,” Ari said taking her hand.
“ASH! You are going to get it now,” I marched toward the house. Ash was standing at the front door.
“Can I help you?” he asked leaning on the door way.
“I refuse to do a watch with them,” I replied opening the door.
“What do you want me to do?” he asked being stubborn.
“I want a watch by myself.”
“No Falcon, we’ve been over why that’s a bad idea.”
“Then I’ll kill him, take your pick.”
“Fine, you can do a watch by yourself.
I walked inside and went to my room. I opened the white MacBook on my bed and returned to work on the death ritual. When I finally closed the internet down I saw my background, it was still me and Ari from last summer at the pool. I changed it to a concert picture of Black Sabbath. I was feeling a little depressed okay?
I spent the rest of the day with Bane and Calypso just hanging out. We played X-Box until it was time for 5th watch, my watch. I grabbed a knife holder and strapped it to my thigh. It was starting to get dark when I went outside. I looked up to the house and saw two figures moving around in Ari’s room. I tried to ignore it but I was tempted to throw a knife at him.
The next day I spent on facial recognition, something wasn’t right with this Charlotte chick. It wasn’t just that I hated her with a passion either. Then I knew where I’d heard her say the bit about “no last name just..” It was the first thing Char said to me, but how did she know Char?
