The Eons Book Two-Chapter Eleven:

The move in was slow and painful. The castle was the most rustic thing, the gates were solid iron, opened by two hand servants. The building was made entirely of hand cut limestone. Torches burned with bright blue fire outside the oak doors, standing 11 feet tall. The floors were made of white marble, the stairs of polished oak. Bane was going to get married here in a 3 months. I walked up the stairs with the last box from my room. The suite I moved into was made for royalty, but royalty I was not. I had added little personal touches here and there, but it still didn’t feel like this was all actually happening.

“Hey, nice place,” Micah said walking into my room.

“Hey Micah,” I said already smiling. Micah and I had become very good friends in the past 2 months. He was 23 when he showed up at the house.

“So I see the Dutchess got moved into her suite.” He picked up my roses, sitting on my vanity.

“Yes, you were very helpful Micah. Thank you,” I took the roses out of his hands and sat them back down on the bedside table.

“Who are those from?” He asked touching the vase.

“My boyfriend. Now I dismiss you,” I pushed him out the door jokingly. He laughed on his way out the door, as my maids entered and I moved out of my room and into the garden. I found Calypso sitting there reading a book under the large elm tree.

“What are you reading today?” I asked sitting beside her in the shade.

“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” She replied, not looking up. She had spent most of our move out of the way reading or hanging out with Bane. I stood up and moved less than gracefully over to the pond. I slipped off my sandals and stuck my feet into the frigid water. I needed a serious wake up. The past couple months had been a rollercoaster of different things to do.  After a few minutes I went back into the castle. There was a rather spacious library, not half way filled with the numerous books we had stored away, it was here I found Ari, reading an Agatha Christie novel in his sweat pants.

“You don’t quite look the part of Duke,” I said walking over to the shelves containing most of my classical music training books.

“Well at least I don’t spend hours locked away in my rooms listening to old records,” he laughed and stood up to join me.

“The older they get, the more valuable they are,” I was flipping through most of the stuff I had collected on Mozart.

“True,”  he started fingering through the books himself. There was a tension that had been there since we broke up.

“So, how’s life Ari?” I asked pulling out my copy of Catcher in the Rye.

“It’s been quiet and boring,” he paced around like a caged dog.

“Since when?” I asked sarcastically.

“Since after Vegas.” I could practically see the mischievous twinkle in his voice. It was these conversations that I missed. I don’t think I am going to regret Vegas a day in my life.

“So maybe it’s a girl you’re missing,” I opened the book to avoid looking at Ari when I said that.

“It might be you I’m missing,” he said moving the book so I had to look right into his eyes. Then I heard Bane on the stairs, singing to herself, and I moved quickly out of the corner. My face burned where Ari’s breath touched it. I ran straight to my bedroom, heart racing. Two months would pass in silent yearning. When rose fingered dawn stretched her grip over May, Bane was beginning to hyperventilate.  Her wedding was days away and she seemed to glow every time I saw her. On the evening of May 13, 2019, I was in the process of curling my hair and fixing small imperfections in my face when Bane and Calypso rushed in.

“Evening Princess,” I said with a wink. Bane was too busy panicking to roll her eyes at me.

“I need you to do my nails, everything has to be perfect,” she was shaking.

“Okay but sit down and try to relax,” I said pulling out a chair for her. She even shook the chair. It took me close to 4 hours to paint her nails to her liking. It was her wedding day when I finished and doing her hair took me longer. Calypso just left her hair curled and slid her dress on, bam she was ready. I finished all three faces with make up and then straightened my hair. Our shoes got all confused and it took us awhile to straighten it out. The chairs were set out in the front garden. Watching Alec walk Calypso down the aisle brought a cheeky smile to my face. Then it was my turn, my breathing was labored and shallow when Ari walked out in his suit. He took my arm and I wanted to faint. I made it all the way down the aisle and when we stood on the stage set up at the front of the house Calypso had a very smug smile on her face. I resisted the urge to laugh out loud. The music started and Ash turned to look at the door, a longing look not hidden, in his eyes. Waseem walked Bane down the aisle. She looked nervous and beautiful and about to faint. The ceremony, also lead by Waseem, was quick and meaningful.

“You may kiss the bride,” Waseem backed up on stage and Ash and Bane were certainly excited to be married. Then they turned to face the 250 people sitting on the castle grounds and Waseem coronated them both, and so my best friend became the Queen of Usebekastan and the Eons.
