The Eons Book Two-Chapter 6:
Over the course of a week my world changed drastically. I had never really known why I felt a need to bring Vlad back until he was back around the house. I guess I had missed him. It was as if the house wasn’t exactly complete without him. I woke up Monday afternoon to screaming from the kitchen. Great, what now? I thought. Then I remembered the looks shared between Vlad and Ari this morning. Of course. I jumped out of bed and ran down the stairs. Sure enough Vlad and Ari were fighting. I had no clue when this had started but I knew when it was stopping. You do not mess with my sleep.
“Maybe she was tired of your nagging Aswari. Let’s face it you moved on and so did she. Yeah, and Alec told me all about you and Charlotte. How does it feel to kiss a dude?” Vlad was shouting at Ari from across the island.
“Yeah cause you wouldn’t know. I get that two years is a long time but do you not recall having sex with Char? Because the rest of us sure as hell do!” Ari yelled right back.
“So I made a few mistakes. Guess what? It doesn’t matter because she likes me now. You had your chance and you passed it up. Get over it,” Vlad said. That was when I walked down the stairs and sat on the island in between them.
“Gentlemen, let’s play nicely, there are people in the house that are trying to sleep.” I said looking at both of them. Vlad smiled a little. Ari just continued to glare at me. I pushed myself off the island and made a beeline for the stairs. Vlad followed me up to me room.
“Are you sure all you want to do is sleep?” He had that twinkle in his eyes.
“Yes I am sure that’s all I want to do, thanks for the offer though,” I said. Some people just won’t take no for an answer though. Vlad climbed into my bed. I pushed him off and locked myself into the connecting bathroom. I heard Ari walking into his bedroom. I tried to keep myself from killing Vlad or screaming in frustration. Ari walked into the bathroom and found me sitting in the bathtub with my head between my knees.
“Are you okay?” He asked, sitting on the sink.
“Does it look like I’m okay?” I reply not looking at him.
“No. I think that’s partially my fault.”
“How is it your fault that all guys are manwhores?”
“Is that what this is really about Falcon?”
“No, it’s really about Vlad trying to force himself on me.”
“God he’s a total-”
“Yeah I know.”
“I’ve been a total-”
“I know.”
“I ruined everything for you didn’t I?”
“No. I wish I could go back and spend more time with you. I can’t fix my mistakes but I am apologizing for them.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
“I’ll go deal with Vlad,” he says getting up to leave.
“Ari wait,” I say standing up in the shower.
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry too. Thank you for dealing with Vlad.”With that he left the bathroom. I sat in the bathtub for another 30 minutes and then I walked out through Ari’s room and down into the back yard. Blood was spattered all over the back porch. I should have known. After all that is how we solve problems around here. I went back inside to the basement. I stayed there most of the night because I couldn’t look at my bed. Eventually everyone else woke up and I had a hard time keeping Calypso and Bane from murdering Vlad. For three days I stayed away from Vlad in the basement until Friday morning when Wasseem entered my life for the third time. He walked me out to the porch and showed me a hammock he had put up. On nicer nights I slept out there. Then one night at dinner Waseem spoke up.
“There is a worse evil out there for you,” he said suddenly solemn, “they are called the Demons. They were trying to make a newer hybrid race, half Eon half werewolf. Something went awfully wrong. The Demons are skeletal beings with sharp canine teeth and skeletal wings. You will find that they are nearly impossible kill. One of the Horrors escaped you’re inferno and informed a friend of his, who was working for the Demons, about you and me and this place. Now we must travel to Las Vegas in the United States and destroy them. It is time for your final test as a team.” Those were not words we needed to hear when the entire team was torn apart. I looked out at the new french doors that we had just replaced. Just like two years ago I sat in between Bane and Calypso so just like two years ago I took the least amount of glass shrapnel to the face when a dozen Demons burst through our french doors.
“I think the universe is trying to tell us that we shouldn’t have french doors Ash,” I said grabbing my knives from their holsters. He laughed as the Demons flew towards us. I hit two of them with knives. Waseem was up battling with us. We managed to drive them to the woods before they really started fighting. I was retrieving a knife from the ground when I was picked up and thrown on my back. I couldn’t find my knives but my hands found a small tree branch close enough to the size of a Ju Jit Su staff for me to use. I took the staff in my hands and swung up opening my wings in the process. The Demon gave a wicked grin. I twisted the branch, dove slightly, and moved the branch half an inch, and nailed the Demon in the face. My landing was less than graceful but I landed. The fight was already hard but Waseem got hit over the head and Calypso grabbed him and attempted to take him back to the house. Ash and Bane were trying to cover them. Vlad and Ari were trying to kill Demons, Alec had a Demon pinned down, and I was trying to unpin myself. I looked up as my bedroom went up in flames. I kicked the Demon off and ran for the house. Something freaked out the Demons, because they suddenly flew off. I didn’t want to think about what exactly had scared them away. All I really wanted to think about was why my room was on fire. Ari and Ash were throwing water from the car washing buckets onto the flames. Calypso grabbed a fire extinguisher and she and Alec aimed at the base of the flames.
After about 30 minutes we got the fire put out. I was amazed. Nothing in my room was harmed. It didn’t even smell of smoke. Waseem emerged from the house, leaning on Bane for support. We all looked to him for and explanation.
“So the Demons are very good at a very old form of black magic, but I have never seen something like this. I can’t explain it,” He said. We all walked back into the house, trying to avoid the broken glass, and held the first team meeting in over two years.
“We have to start regular patrols again and we need a plan. Also someone will have to get us passports, we are going to Nevada. First patrol get out of here,” Ash said. Ari and I stood, gathered our weapons and headed back outside. The night was cold, and it wasn’t over yet.
