"You haven't lost Dex," Keefe promised. "Trust the Empath!" When she didn't smile, he leaned in and whispered, "And here's another thing you can count on. You'll never lose me. No matter how any of this stuff goes down."

There was a softness to his voice. Maybe even a sweetness. And for a second, Sophie's breath seemed to catch.

But then he leaned back and added, "I have way too much fun annoying you."

Sophie sighed, "That does seem to be one of your talents."

"And you adore me for it. If fact, maybe we should find out if we're meant to be."

He puckered his lips and Sophie shoved him a little that time.

"Hey—how come the Dexinator gets the smooch test and I don't? Do you realize that thanks to you, sweet, innocent, little Dex has kissed someone before I have? And you too?"

"Really?" Sophie blurted. "Never?"

"I realize it's hard to believe, considering..." He waved his arm in front of himself, like his looks said it all. "Don't get me wrong— I've had plenty of offers, but..."

He shrugged, tilting his head to the side to expose his face to the sun. Sophie couldn't help but stare, even if his looks weren't what she admired about him. The way he angled his face exposed the light freckles dotted on the bridge of his nose. When he exhaled, his cheekbone turned more defined, stealing the innocence of his jawline as well.

Before she could react, he turned, catching her staring eyes. His lip quirked up, "Checking me out, are you, Foster?"

Sophie shook her head, moving away to stop the blush creeping into her face. She ignored the noise that told her Keefe shifted closer. Gulping down the bile, she held her head high and got up.

Sophie didn't get far. Keefe grabbed her wrist and pulled her back down to face him. She noticed her hand resting in his lap but didn't bother to remove it. Keefe smirked, most likely reading her emotions with the vise grip he held on her wrist.

Keefe pulled her closer just as something pieced together in her head.

"I have a feeling you want to."

"T-to do what?" Sophie asked.

He smiled at her, "Don't act dumb, Foster."

Sophie met his eyes. They mesmerized her in a way nothing else would, trapping her curiosity. Then he inched even closer. She saw the red in his cheeks as she raised her hand to stroke his jawline.

His arms wound around her waist, keeping her steady. Keefe's eyes portrayed the exact definition of longing, and she decided not to torture him any longer. She leaned forward, lining her lips up with his— careful to leave a tiny wisp of space.

A chance for him to change his mind.

Keefe closed the distance between them.

Something similar to fireworks blasting in her stomach occurred. His lips were soft, and were far better than any other kisses described in all fictional rom-com. Nothing could beat the single yearning a person had for you, the one person whom you would go to the ends of the world for.

Nothing could beat the fire building around the idea of Team Foster-Keefe.

By the time they broke apart, Sophie hadn't had enough but had to catch her breath. Keefe looked just the same, his cheeks dusted with pink making him look like a pure angel. In contrast with her, she was a hundred percent sure she looked like a fire hydrant.

That thought was countered when Keefe murmured into her hair, "You look adorable."

"Nothing compared to you."

Keefe didn't argue, glancing at the mirror which captured the pair bathed in sunlight, their entangled shadow gracing the wooden floors. It didn't leave out the factor of magic she could sense in the air. From what she could tell, she was nearly on his lap. Sophie saw Keefe frown through the mirror. His finger tilted her chin up to meet his eyes.

"That mirror doesn't do justice to how beautiful you look. It's not fair."

Sophie laughed at the pout, "Be grateful you have the real-life version, then." She snuggled her head into his shoulder. "And you're not losing her anytime soon.
