♡⇐ Sokeefe Love ⇒♡
Sophie still had a vivid memory of what had gone down nearly a month ago. The words crammed into her head, making nearly as much sense as they did on that day.
The day Sophie broke up with Keefe.
She had no idea how the argument had started, it had just arisen from Sophie's frustration with herself. She didn't know whether it was because of her inhuman ability to screw things up all the time, or because of that nagging sensation that told her to stop and think about what she was doing. But her love for Keefe had blinded that and had uprisen such a monstrous event in her life that she would never forgive herself for.
Even with the reprimands, she gave herself daily, she still longed for how it once was.
Everything reminded her of him. Sitting casually on her windowsill, the memory of them huddled together, bundled in thick blankets, awaited her. The mallowmelts Edaline gave her reminded her of the one time they had planned a prank on Ro.
She missed it. So much.
But she knew how unworthy she was of his love. It was ablaze, full, and only needed one person to crack it into a simmering, cold-hearted blue flame.
Despite all of that, she was here, knocking at the door of Shores of Solace. Sophie didn't bother to admire the glory of the majestic beach area, all she needed to know was that Keefe was in there, and she needed to apologize.
The door creaked open, and a tall ogre stood at the frame. Sophie diverted her gaze from Ro, whom she pressed was tempted to grab ahold of one of her daggers. Taking an agitated breath, she looked up and faced the towering Ro.
Hands crossed, the ogre's skin looked tougher than she remembered, with silver eyes as hard as diamonds, and sharp as steel.
Sophie knew Ro wasn't in the mood to talk, something about her had changed.
Squeezing through the sliver of space between the door frame and Ro, she wondered where Keefe would be. Then, she realized he was already staring at her from the living room. There was no commotion other than the wind slamming against the window, so she assumed Lord Cassius had left.
Her eyes swept Keefe. His posture was slouched, his sunken cheeks and cracked lips indicating a lack of food. Fake courage lit inside of her, and she lifted her gaze to meet his eyes. Nothing about them was the same, they had a protective sheen over them as if it constructed him from falling again. The ice blue she loved had been dulled, grayer than its former light blue.
"What are you doing here?"
Sophie hesitated, the sudden question stalling her thought process. She knew Ro was behind her and would restrict her from doing anything to Keefe, but all she wanted to do was apologize.
Though in his presence, it seemed so much more unfeasible.
Instead, she closed her eyes and sank onto the wooden floor, and before she could even comprehend what she was doing, a speech had already formed in her head.
"I don't know how to apologize for my mistake. It was such an idiotic one to make, especially with someone like you." She gave him the temptation of justifying herself, no matter how wrong it was. "I was just so overwhelmed with how new the concept of love was, and how much you had to offer. I thought I could never return it, given how much you've sacrificed for it." She paused. "I'm so sorry that I just realized all of this, I should've communicated properly, and saved you from all this misery you're put through. You don't deserve it. I do."
The silence that fell over the room was intolerable. She could practically feel Ro's glare on her back that told her to leave, but she had one more thing to say.
"I still love you. This is wrong in so many ways, and, please, please, don't think I'm forcing this on you or anything, but— I can't—" She took a breather. "I can't live without knowing I've at least tried.
After a moment, Keefe finally spoke, his voice quiet. "Only a fool would take back someone who hurt them so much."
Those were the words.
In mere seconds, Sophie's composure broke. Her heart grabbed loose threads of hope as it sank deeper into her chest. Tears spilled over her cheeks, the deepening feeling of loneliness and regret hitting her in the gut. She was careful to keep her face and body as still as she could, but the sense of heartbreak fired inside her.
The atmosphere violently shifted to the cold side, the crashing waves suddenly appeared in her ears. That was before a pair of warm arms enveloped her. She sat there, basked in confusion before gasping at the familiarity.
"And I am that fool," Keefe whispered into her ear.
