FRED'S POV:
NASHVILLE, TN, AUGUST 24, 1986

"Come on, Fred, don't be a big baby."

He said, almost as if he was teasing me.

"You aren't scared, now, are you?"

He added.

Something about him calling me a big baby, I just didn't like it.

Yeah, I may be the youngest but that doesn't mean I'm a baby or just scared.

I wanted to prove myself, but I knew that there would be consequences, even for that.

And I didn't really want to face the repercussions.

But then again, if I face them, would I become a cocky person?

I'm not a cocky person, and I certainly don't want to have a big ego.

"I don't know, Derek."

"Come on, give it a try. If you don't like it, it's fine, I won't bother you anymore. "

He said simply.

"So?"

He asked as he sat and got to work with the drug.

Putting some on this curved spoon.

"What do you say?"

"I'm not sure, Derek. I don't want to be addicted to anything."

"You won't, I promise."

"And how do you even know that?"

"Because I use heroin every other day, I don't seem addicted, do I?"

"Well, no?"

"See. It's all about... control."

He said as he turned the lighter on.

I bit my inner cheek as I watched the fire slowly start to melt the crystal.

"Come on, Fred. Just once."

He said.

I sighed.

"Can I just snort it?"

"Shooting up is the best way. I promise you."

He said.

My eyes stayed on the crystal.

"Ok."

I simply said.

I honestly don't know why I said that.

It didn't take long for it to have melted completely.

"Ready?"

He asked as he pulled on the syringe, pulling up some of the melted crystal.

"Yeah."

I said.

"This is going to help find your vein a lot faster."

He said as he grabbed a band, and started wrapping it around my arm, tightly enough.

"Ok."

He started to get the syringe close to my left arm.

"Derek?"

"Yeah?"

"I- I don't know about this."

"Don't worry. You'll be fine. Besides, the show starts in about 5 minutes, you could use a boost of energy and something to help calm the nerves."

He said.

For some reason, I believed him.

"Ready?"
