The front door creaked open, and I stepped inside, Blessing right behind me, both of us juggling the bags we brought for Khalise and Keninn. The smell of whatever scented candle Mama had been burning lingered in the air, and the familiar sound of the TV from the living room made me feel right at home.
"Khalise! Keninn!" I called out, dropping the bags on the floor with a dramatic sigh. "Come help and get y'all stuff before I change my mind!"
"Hold up!" Keninn hollered from somewhere deeper in the house.
Moments later, he appeared in the doorway, a controller in one hand and a headset crooked on his ear like he couldn't pause his game for too long. His eyes flicked to Blessing, and a grin broke across his face.
"Oh, you here too? What's good, bro?"
"What's up," Blessing replied, stepping forward to dap him up. "I brought you some stuff," he said, motioning toward one of the bags. "Sneakers, hoodies—stuff I don't wear no more."
