That night I wore the same dress as earlier, however now my hair laid in loose curls. The King requested that we would all gather together for a family supper. I entered the large dimly lit dinning room with a long table shaped like a 'T'. Lucerys and I both awkwardly spoke to one another staring at the family of greens surrounding us. Servants silently walked around the room setting the table for supper.
"How are you feeling?" I asked with a soft smile looking into his eyes as we stood at the same height.
"Better." He responded with a weak smile. Suddenly, the King was rolled into the room upon a wooden wheelchair. Everyone stood behind our seats waiting for our host to make it to the head of the table. I sat besides Lucerys who sat besides his betrothed. Aegon smirked at me directly across the table. Butterflies erupted in my stomach as his eyes surveyed every inch of my face. Once everyone was situated we all sat down.
"How good it is to see you all tonight together." The King acknowledged smiling out at everyone weakly.
"Prayer before we begin." The queen stated as everyone bowed their heads.
"May the Mother smile down on this gathering with love. May the Smith mend the bonds that have been broken for far too long. And to Vaemond Velaryon, may the gods give him rest." The Queen prayed. A chuckle came from an amused Daemon on the opposite end of the table. A sly smirk appeared on my features due to his humor.
"This is an occasion for celebration, it seems. My grandsons, Jace and Luke, will marry their cousins, Baela and Rhaena, further strengthening the bond
between our houses. A toast to the young Princes and their betrothed." The King struggled holding up his chalice. Everyone copied him taking up our glasses."Hear, hear!" Daemon cheered amusingly holding his cup up.
"Well done, Jace. You'll finally get to lie with a woman." I heard Aegon whisper to my twin brother. My head snapped up in their direction as I glared at the silver haired Prince.
"Let us toast as well Prince Lucerys the future Lord of the Tides." The King announced nodding to my little brother. I paid little attention to the shoutouts of my grandfather as I stared intensely at Aegon and Jace.
"You do know how the act is done, I assume? At least in principle? Where to put your cock and all that. Maybe you can watch as I demonstrate with your sister." Aegon mocked in a whispered tone so no one other then Jace would hear him. My eyes widened as Jace slammed his glass down nearly shattering it. He glared at Aegon with a hatred in his eye.
"Let it be, cousin." Baela hissed glaring at Aegon as did I.
"You can play the jester if you wish, but hold your tongue before my betrothed and keep your foul comments regarding my sister to yourself." Jace spat with silent furry, not wishing to cause a scene. The King suddenly stood up preparing to give yet another speech.
"It both gladdens my heart and fills me with sorrow to see these faces around the table. The faces most dear to me in all the world yet grown so distant from each other in the years past. My own face is no longer a handsome one if indeed it ever was. But tonight I wish you to see me as I am. Not just a king but your father. Your brother. Your husband and your grandsire. Who may not, it seems walk for much longer among you." The King spoke wisely as he removed the golden mask that shielded his damaged eye. I tried not to display my disgust. His right eye had fallen out completely and all that remained was a bloodied hole in his face.
"Let us no longer hold ill feelings in our hearts. The crown cannot stand strong if the House of the Dragon remains divided. But set aside your grievances. If not for the sake of the crown then for the sake of this old man who loves you all so dearly." The King finished sitting back down in his chair. After a few moments of silence my mother stood up from her seat holding her own chalice in her hand.
