I stood alongside my twin as Baela took the floor. My cousin had apparently came across an interesting sight while patrolling the skies with Moondancer.
"Ser Criston Cole... with some half-dozen other
knights, I'm sure of it. Perhaps a scout party for a greater army." Baela announced from besides my mother. The Queen stood with her arms crossed as she peered down at the lit table."The ravens confirm it, Your Grace. Lord Farring has reported a larger force moving northeast towards Rosby." The Maester confirmed agreeing with Baela.
"Could you be certain it was Cole from such a great height?" My mother asked glancing at her step daughter. Baela's look changed from one of urgency to unease.
"It was not such a great height, Your Grace. You said not to engage, so I didn't, exactly." The young lady spoke warily. She had outright ignored the Queen's orders. My mother gave her an irritated look
"Your Grace, we commend the Lady Baela for her sharp eyes, but we can tarry no longer. The time for action is surely now." Lord Bartimos announced.
"Your Grace, I must agree and request your permission to return to Rook's Rest and fortify my lands." Lord Staunton spoke with unease. My mother nodded in understanding.
"I shouldn't fret, Lord Simon. They'll be making for Harrenhal." Another older Lord spoke freely.
"Tis Prince Daemon who ought to worry." Another stated.
Prince Daemon has Caraxes." My mother spoke nervously as all the men in the room argued.
"Cole will look to increase his numbers, and he may call upon a dragon of his own." Lord Bartimos shot back with agitation. All the men flocked to my mother itching for a fight.
"This is why you must act now, Your Grace. Loose the dragons. Root Cole out and burn him. Send Meraxes and Meleys to end them!" Alfred Broome shouted with urgency. My eyes widened as I glanced up from across the table to my mother. I glanced down at Jace's hands as he clutched the hilt of his sword. If anyone was itchy if for a fight, it was my twin. He would rather be the one sent to battle.
"I have heard your arguments. And will consider them. But I shall not send my daughter into open battle with the enemy with no knowledge of their plans. I have already lost one of my children and sent away three others. I will not lose another!" My mother hissed before turning on her heel and striding proudly out of the room. Soon everyone dispersed as I made my way to my bed chambers. I was startled to see a sealed letter laying on my windowsill. I had half expected him to never see me again. I practically ran to the window just as the Raven was flying off. I ripped the green seal off of the tiny scroll and read.
My dearest princess,
I know my previous actions were uncalled for. I must understand as I grieve for my son, you grieve for your brother. A sense of dread we both seem to possess at this moment. I love you Aemma. I may profess my words of divine love countlessly. But alas, they are indeed just words. Now, I intend to truly show you how much your beauty haunts me.
As The Conqueror King Aegon the first, I intend to take on a second wife. And I wish for nothing more than for that to be you. I, King Aegon the Second. King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm ask you, Princess Aemma of Dragonstone to accept my hand in marriage in a traditional Valyrian wedding. Let me prove to you that my love for you is eternal and that no matter what travesties lie ahead, we shall still have one another.
