I walked Gretchen home before returning home.
Once I got home, Ruth and Aaron looked at me oddly "You got home later than you said you would" Ruth commented.
I looked at her "Plans can change, things come up" I said.
I went to the kitchen and grabbed my share of dinner and started to eat dinner.

Ruth went her room, clearly in a sour mood. Aaron looked at me "There's something else, your eyes are pink, and you have a silly grin on your face" he said.
I chuckled "Well, it's been a roller-coaster. I found out some dark plans of the NSDAP, and..." I trailed, not knowing how to say it "later I..." I couldn't answer.
"Does it have something to do with a certain Fräulein Müller?" he asked.
I felt my face heat up "We kissed... I don't know, it's slightly confusing. We like each other, that's clear. I don't know what you'll call us though" I explained.
Aaron laughed and patted my back "I wasn't there, so I can't say, maybe ask, or make a move again, see how she reacts. Don't do anything drastic, just enough to see if she returns your feelings. I don't know, I'm no expert. Just know that you two would have to keep it secret, well, at least from the Nazis" he explained to me.

The next day Gretchen called me, telling me to meet her tomorrow night at 9. Since she was going to sneak into Rudolf Hess office at Braunes Haus to look for something, and I convinced her let me go with her, saying she shouldn't go alone, and I wanted to help her.

The next night I waited for Gretchen to leave the building. Once it was 9, I saw the guards close up and leave. About a minute or so later the doors opened "All clear" I heard Gretchens voice whisper.
I turned to her rushed up the steps and we ran up the inside staircase. We ran along the second floor and went to Hess's office. I gave her a pick, since I figured the door would be locked. She quickly unlocked it, I did want to know what her story was, exactly, all I know is her father taught her, for reasons I could only guess.
We went into the room, the curtains are open, letting some silvery starlight came in. I opened a drawer and looked through it "A stack of envelopes with a pink ribbon, right?" I confirmed.

"Yes. They were all written by my father to my mother, so they'll be addressed to Liesel" she explained.
I nodded, I looked up and saw her looking at the door, Hitlers office was next door, "Go" I said, before looking through the drawers again, I noticed how organised Hess was "Hess is a methodical man. If the letters are here, it shouldn't take me long to find them. And you mustn't have another opportunity to go through Hitler's office." I explained to her, I looked up and saw she had a small smile before she rushed out. After a short while, maybe a minute or two, I found the letters.
I went out and closed the door. I went to Hitlers room. I went into the anteroom, while she was entering at the same time. "You found them" she asked.
"Yes" I said, I knew it was getting late "We should leave" I said.

We went through the rooms one last time to make sure it was in place be Gretchen jiggled the locks into place.
We rushed down the stairs and went outside into the street. Thankfully no one was on the street.

We walked a few sides streets over to get to a streetcar stop. No one was there, leaving us alone, there were some lights of the buildings, the only thing showed that were other people here.
I grabbed Gretchens shoulders and turned her me, I felt a wide grin on my face "You were amazing!" I said, referring to how she unlocked and relocked the doors, and how she even had the guts to do that "I've never met anyone as brave as you" I said, she was about to speak but I had already leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her into a hug. I felt my heart banging against my chest, I felt myself shaking with nervousness. She wrapped her arms around my neck, her lips were soft, and her embrace felt warm, and like I was the only thing important in her life.
