"Okay, we're out of Central Park. What's next?" Gidget asked. Neither Max or Duke replied right away as they surveyed the surrounding area. All the buildings seemed similar to each other, all being tall and reaching out towards the sky. People meandered around on the sidewalks while cars of all kinds drove by.
"You mentioned we live in downtown Manhattan. I'm not too familiar with this area but I bet if we walk downtown we'll see something that will help us find out where we are," Max declared. Nodding her head in agreement, Gidget stated, "Good idea. We should also stick together. Safety in numbers."
"Uh, yeah. I think I'm gonna split," Duke piped up. His ears perked up in surprise, Max stuttered, "Duke, that is not smart at all!" Stepping forward, Gidget added, "This city is not a safe place, even for a big dog like you."
"Hey, look. I know that but I also don't want to feel like the third wheel. Besides, I need some food in my system," Duke explained. Max sighed. Of course there was food involved. Patting his brother on the back reassuringly, the Newfoundland mix reassured the Jack Russell terrier, "I'll be okay, I promise. Once I get something to eat, maybe I'll find you guys and we can get home together."
"Alright, we'll be downtown. Be careful," Max replied. Wagging his tail in reply, Duke lumbered off as he called over his shoulder, "See you lovebirds later!" Both Max and Gidget blushed when they heard that. Looking around, the Jack Russell terrier nudged the fluffy white Pomeranian gently as he murmured, "Come on, let's get out of here."
"Yeah, let's go," Gidget responded, "I wanna at least beat Snowball home and rub it in his face."
