"Oh my god run Mel!" Buddy howled, racing as fast as his short legs could carry him. Running alongside his best friend, Mel shouted, "What do you think I'm doing?!" At that moment, a loop attached to a metal pole swooped over their heads. Screaming, the two dogs picked up the pace.
"Quick! This way!" Mel barked, taking a sharp right turn. Buddy followed suit with the two animal control officers right behind. The pair swerved around the citizens of the city, weaving in between shoes of various kinds. With their smaller size, they lost their pursuers in the crowd. Side by side with Mel, Buddy asked, "Are we still being chased?"
"No, no I don't think so," Mel replied, panting. Just to be sure, he looked back over his shoulder. The pug's eyes immediately widened in horror when he witnessed the animal control officers breaking through the crowd. "Nevermind, go. RUN!" he barked, resuming his run. Yelping in fear, Buddy ran after him howling, "Go go GO!"
"RUN!" both cried. All of the sudden, the two dogs tripped over something. Scrambling to his feet, Mel caught a glimpse of gray striped fur. Chloe, they had tripped over Chloe. Her ears pinned against her head, the gray tabby hissed, "What is wrong with you guys now?!"
"No time to talk Chloe, just run!" Buddy yipped. Together, he and Mel pulled the feline to her paws before dashing away. Noticing the animal control officers that were hot on their tails, Chloe joined in on the race. It didn't matter that they were tired, if they slowed down even a little bit there was a chance they would be caught and sent to the pound. Neither of them wanted that.
And so, the three animals ran for their lives.
