Two days went by without another word from Gravedigger. Scout was getting worried, he could tell from hearing him walk around his dorm but never actually knock. However, his mind was elsewhere despite the constant distractions. He heavily contemplated telling his father about Krampus though, if it turned out to be false then it would break his heart even more.
Scout himself was getting less concerned about Commander finding out and more about Gravedigger's wellbeing. He looked so lost in thought whenever they met and he would refuse to talk. Did he hate Towers now too? Did he hate him?
All these questions and even more made Scout restless. He wanted to know if the tales were real, he wanted to fix everything in name of his people. He wanted...to repair what the other Commander had done. Titans were not mindless monsters and to destroy families like that is just purely inhumane. Realizing there was only one man who could give him the answers his mind had been screaming for, he froze. How could he ever bring up the situation without sounding suspicious? What if the Commander finds out about Grave? Would he... kill him? No, no, no way... he wouldn't do that.. Scout knew Commander would never... At least part of him hoped.
After a morning of pacing back and forth going over idea after idea, Scout decided it was now or never. The truth had to come to light and he was the only one who could make it happen. Whilst the older soldiers were out on patrol, it was just him, Com' and some other high officials left at the base for the noon.
He rushed to Commander's office now that he finally made up his mind. He couldn't lose the opportunity to find him all alone with no one to bother them. With a deep breath and a small hesitation, he knocked at the looming door, peace of the mind waiting for him on the other side.
"Enter!"
Opening the door he was met with a rather messy office. Plans, blueprints, maps, contracts thrown all over the floor, stuffed in drawers far too small. The Commander himself was working on yet another report as if his room wasn't filled with them already. The man gestured for Scout to sit down, he quickly obliged.
"What's going on, kid?"
Scout stumbled over his words, "Oh! Umm.. I-umm"
Commander waved his hand at his uncertainty, "Faster, Scout, I don't have all day."
"I-I wanted to ask you about... Krampus?"
Commander paused for a second, lifting his eyes from the paper. He eyed him suspiciously, "... Why?"
The boy froze, making up a rapid yet poor excuse, "I-umm... I have a uhh.. s-school project.."
The man blinked, "... About Krampus?"
"Yeah... Horror stories, culture stuff y'know..." he smiled sheepishly.
"Oookay. Well, what do you want to know about him?"
Scout stared at his hands as he thought over his next words, "Uh-umm! M- Most stories say that he was defeated after many hard battles but...none s-say exactly how.."
The subject caught Commander's full attention. He put the paper down and leaned back into his chair making Scout tense. Oh no, does he know?!
