The nights are getting shorter, and the first rays of sun can bother anyone that tries to sleep in, especially ones that had a night of drinking while drowning in a state of self-pity and circling through different emotions at the same time. From pure anger and yelling at an empty wall to laughing maniacally while laid on the floor. This could sum up Rose's night.
When she was woken in the morning she protested for a bit before complying with the annoying cat. She popped two ibuprofen pills to mellow down the headache and drank more water than she should have only to end up hugging the toilet, emptying her stomach of the remaining trays of the alcohol from the previous night.
Once she felt as human as she could, and she did no longer dread the idea of walking she dressed in casual clothes and put on a pair of sunglasses in order to block anything that would worsen the now bearable headache.
"Why are we doing this again" she asked while walking on the sidewalk, trying to not seem like the crazy lady that spoke by herself on the streets.
"We need to find it before he does." Isis said after she popped her head from the backpack. She tried to completely get out, but she knew that Rose would make her walk if she was too insistent. In reality, she liked to be carried around. As long as her paws were not getting dirty, she was happy.
"Find what?" Rose said trying to remember the conversations they had the day before but that was near impossible.
"The necklace..." Isis mumbled a little disappointed thinking that the girl barely listened to her.
"Why do we care about a necklace?" Rose crossed her arms over her chest.
"Because if he finds it, things will start to not go down as they should, and the odds will not be in our way."
Rose turned the backpack around to face the cat, much to Isis's displeasure.
"The odds are not really in my favor since I must die. Not to mention that I've been to Hell and back in the past days."
Isis tilted her head a little and looked up at the girl. "I mean..."
"Don't even try..." Rose cut her off. "Besides you keep being cryptic. You don't tell me who he is. You don't tell me why we have to do certain things. You let me just figure it out on my own and is quite annoying. I hate it when people hide things from me."
"Like Leo and Eliseea?" Isis realized by the girl's reaction that she hit a sensitive spot.
"Yeah, I mean... none of them mentioned anything before. Is all sudden." She mumbled and pushed the cat's head inside the backpack. "We continue the talk when we get at the other side." She said and smiled when one guy gave her a strange look.
They walked in silence. Around them life went as it should. People were moving on with their day and lives. Once they reached the edge of the town, and the path that lead to the cemetery, Rose opened the zipper more to let the cat get her head out.
"You walk slow." The now grumpy cat says.
"You are heavy." Rose adds and moves her head a little bit further when she heard the cat hiss. "Don't even try to scratch me again." She said dead serious.
Isis could see that in the past week the girl changed. What Rose did not know was that the cat has been watching her in the past month. She was not a cheerful person, but she was not cold either. She was more reserved than the average human, but she was always open and willing to help. The person that was now carrying her seemed like someone that lost all hope or desire to be as she was before.
"Aren't you scared?" Isis asked suddenly, expecting any reaction from her.
"I am, but what could that do? It won't stop the Earth from moving, nor that asshole to follow me." She said before letting out a sigh. "Honestly, I am trying to understand what is happening. I've been having these dreams... with a guy but they do not feel like dreams. I don't know how to explain it, it's weird but at the same time they make me sad. They make me feel like they are a piece of me that I've lost on the way. Not him, but the places where I go every night almost. It's hard to explain." Rose said and smiled weakly at the cat and somehow, she could see that Isis understood her. Even if she did not say much, the other understood and for a second it felt nice to be able to talk about it.
