"Nothing seems to be wrong, other than your blood pressure being higher than normal," Deaton says, while taking off his gloves.
"That's it? is that why I felt dizzy and like I was about to pass out?" Cadence asks, sitting up and pulling her shirt back down to cover her rather large belly.
"Yes, it's very common for werewolf royalty, who is also an attorney and holding the weight of the world on her shoulders," Deaton replied, sarcasm clear in his voice, even though everything he said was the absolute truth.
"Okay, okay," She smiled. "What do I need to do?" Cadence asked.
"Well, seeing as you are just now in your third trimester, more side effects of pregnancy will be popping up in the final stage. Werewolf or not, you need to slow down and rest. The stress is not good for the baby," Deaton said.
"I told you," Derek said, coming into the room from his hiding spot in the hall of the vet clinic. "So what do you suggest, doc?"
"Cadence needs to slow down and rest more," Deaton confirms, plainly. "The wolf in you is on very high alert as is because this is not your first pregnancy, and the wolf is being protective over this baby. You need to listen to her, or her stress can affect the baby just as much because you feel what the wolf feels." Deaton explains.
"Bed rest? No working? No protecting the good? What do I need to do, Deaton?" Cadence asks.
"Well, there is no need for permanent bed rest, obviously. But I suggest that you sit more than you stand, less work, and leave the protecting to your pack. They are more than capable of protecting the good in Beacon Hills. Plus, Beacon Hills is back to the Beacon of hope it used to be, no longer the Beacon of death," Deaton reasons.
"Well now you just jinxed us, Doc," Derek says, half joking, and half worried.
"Don't worry, I can usually feel the bad coming. I do not feel it as of now," Deaton reassures the royals. "Anyway. There is nothing to worry about right now. If anything gets worse, let me know and I will come to you. Just rest as much as you can, Cadence." Deaton says.
The royals say their goodbyes to Deaton and make their way home.
"You heard Deaton, babe, get out of her before I throw you out," Derek tells Cadence, trying to get out food to cook for dinner. She gives him a look. "Figuratively obviously."
Instead of leaving, she goes to sit in one of their barstools and looks at him to continue what she was doing.
"Okay, so I don't know how to make what you were going to, but you can walk me through it, okay?" Derek says with full confidence in his ability to listen to directions. Cadence laughs and she spends the next hour trying to tell him measurements, cutting tips, cook time. He's not the best listener.
"What do you think our baby will be?" Cadence asks, after a moment of silence while Derek puts his mixing bowls and cooking utensils in the dishwasher. He pauses for a second, before he shuts the dishwasher and turns around to answer her.
"Healthy. I think our baby will be healthy. Have your amazing blue eyes and heart bigger than Russia." He says.
"Russia?" She laughs.
"Yeah, that place is huge, bigger than Texas for sure." He tells her and makes his way around to her side of the table. Her laughing subsides while he wraps his arms around her.
"What do you think she would've been like?" She asks, willing to talk about the baby that she has been avoiding since Kate took her away.
"Strong, like her mom." He whispers.
