Almost Home [sequel to Bumper Cars- d.h]

Chapter 13

The next morning, Cadence got out of her bed and went into her bathroom. She hadn't seen Derek since what happened the night before, given that she dropped a huge bombshell on him. She stepped into the shower and tried to relax. She started crying all over again. It hurt her so much to have to do this, but everything has been so bad for her. The thing that scares her the most is the way her inner wolf is going to react. However, the last time she was gone for a while, her wold wasn't as angry, at bay. So maybe this can work if not, she hopes that he will follow her. But maybe he's too far gone. She keeps crying, not knowing how loud she is actually getting. 

In the other room, Derek hears his wife sob. He wishes things can change, but for now, and for a while, he has to let things be this way. He will just hold off on signing the papers. Maybe he can fix it when this whole ordeal is over. He sneaks into the room they used to share to lay something on the bed. He gives one long glance to the closed door of the bathroom and sighs silently. He thinks to himself on how risking holding off signing the papers is, but that's what he was told to do last night, and honestly, it's the best choice he has right now. Until this blows over, it's all he can do. 

He sneaks back out of the room and he shuts the door behind him. She soon comes out of the bathroom and goes to her suitcase and gets the outfit that she had laid out to wear for today and her travels. She is sending the boxes packed to her house and is dropping them off before she gets on the plane. Once she is clothes, something on the bed catches her eye. She walks over to the where the letter and other objects lay. The letter reads:

'C,

This is the hardest thing I've ever had to write because I'm losing you. But I'm not giving up because maybe a little space and time apart to clear our heads is what is best for us. I love you with all my heart. And you're right, I haven't done a good job at keeping my vows, but I promise that I will do better. I will fight for you and I will never stop fighting for you. I can't tell you why it's been like this, but one day, when I get to the bottom of it, I will. You mean everything to me and I will never stop trying to prove it. 

I know I haven't been the best at showing it here lately, and I'm so sorry I have put you through all of this. I know I haven't been the man you married, as you say, but I will never give up on us. I love you forever. Always. And no matter how I act, that is the one thing I want you to remember always. You do make me a better man solely from your love. Everything you do makes me the best man I can be. I haven't shown it, as I keep saying, but I won't give up. Never forget that.

Cadence, throughout my life, loss has been inevitable. I've lost so much, but with you, I've gained so much more. You help me daily be the man who my family knew I could always be. You're stronger than anyone I know. I know these past two years have been hard on you, and I never made it any easier, but you believed in me, in us. I know that when the time is right, we will have a beautiful family, with a beautiful baby girl watching over us, You are the love of my life Cadence. There is no one I'd rather spend my life with, other than you. Forever.

I mean every single word of that. I will prove it. Even If it's the last thing I do.

Under the letter was a picture of the two on their honeymoon to Switzerland and a necklace that he had given to Cadence a long time ago. 

She put the items into her purse and let out a shaky breath. She and Derek had their ups and downs but this? She didn't know if she could make it through this one. Hell, she lost hope. 

She grabbed her things and made her way down the steps of her beloved home. SHe's going to miss the view, the weather, but most of all, the man she loved. 

She was making her way towards the door when movement caught her eye. She turned around and saw Derek. She could sense his pain but just couldn't move from her spot. She gave him a painful small smile and turned around to open the door. She had her hand around the doorknob, about to turn when she was stopped. 

"C, I love you. very much, always." He said, his voice cracking due to the number of tears he was holding back. She couldn't even look back at him, knowing she wouldn't be able to keep herself from running into his arms and never wanting to let go. She wanted to say it back, she did, because nothing in this world was truer than the love she had for him exceeding the number of stars in the sky. But she turned the knob and left. She closed the door behind her and walked down the stairs to the cab that was there waiting to take her to the airport. 

Derek stood there, frozen in his place, wishing that he could've run after her.

But that's not what she wanted. 

She wanted him to let her go.

He knew that.

He felt that. 

And as much as it killed him.

He did it.

After four hours on a stuffy plane, she stepped on the escalator that took her to her father. 

"Hey, dad," Cadence said, faking the tone in her voice, knowing that she wasn't happy. He looked at her with so much heartache. He wished he could tell her everything but he promised Derek that he wouldn't. 

"Let's get you home." He said while putting an arm around her shoulders and lead her to the parking lot.

"Are you happy? You made me drive the one person that I ever loved that much away! You got what you want, you can go and leave me alone." Derek went off on the person standing across from him.

"Okay, fine. I'll leave you alone." Kate smirked sideways at the raging werewolf. She walked out and smirked at the plans she had for a certain queen. She told Derek that she would leave her alone. But she never said anything about a certain werewolf who is related to the were-jaguar.
