Eddie and I had been officially boyfriend and girlfriend for more than 2 months now, holding hands every second we got, lots of kissing too which I loved and I'd managed to mostly keep my control as that familiar warmth spread through my body every time. At first he called it "dating" but I didn't really know what that meant and I heard him wondering to himself a lot about how I knew so little about "dating". Constantly obsessing over it to the point where he'd question whether I was raised by some crazy religious family, or come from some weird cult thing... it was terrifying to think how close he was getting to the truth sometimes! I'd manage to buy some time and assure him that he'd know everything he needed to know soon, seeing my teary-eyed each time I thought about it made him withdrawal from questioning further rather quickly. Knowing I was alone, Eddie had talked Wayne into letting me spend Christmas with them, which was great. Not like the ones I'd had with Alice, but it was still special as it was the first Christmas I had a boyfriend. Wayne was just like Alice, he was kind and warm and immediately took a liking to me, insisting I come over for dinner most nights and making sure I was "eating enough".It was a blistering cold morning in Hawkins, remnants of snow still covered the ground as this was a remarkably cold January and we'd been back at school after winter break for only a couple of weeks. I'd started sharing rides to school with Eddie, which usually meant taking my red Chevy as he'd taken quite a liking to it, I didn't mind as he enjoyed driving it as much as I did. We'd still take his van from time to time, like if the Hellfire guys needed s ride home after a game, I never joined in, just enjoyed sitting quietly and watching Eddie in his element. Eddie was desperate for me to join the club, but secretly, I didn't think it would be fair considering I could hear what he was planning in his mind throughout every game. That is, when he wasn't shooting me sly glances and thinking things I'd only ever seen on late night TV or read in Alice private books. It was a normal Friday and we'd arrived into the icy parking lot, Eddie managed to find a space pretty near the entrance so we didn't have to walk across the partially frozen parking lot, in plain view of his friends who all stood outside the doors waiting for their apparent leader to arrive.
I'd started spending more time around Eddie's friends, sitting with them at lunch and hanging out them on weekends and over winter break, I already knew some of them, like Robin, who was in my biology class and Nancy who I'd met through Robin, and their friend Steve who was really friendly at first, until Eddie whispered something to him about "flirting", then he was the same with me as he was with Robin. Eddie introduced me to his "little sheepies", one of which was Nancy's brother, who was particularly annoying today because he was extremely excited that his girlfriend was moving back from California. I'd heard nothing but "El this..." and "El that..." for weeks now and I was so over it, I guess that's how they all felt about Eddie when he was obsessing over me. Tonight we'd all agreed to go the Wheelers house so they could welcome El and her step-brothers back and I could finally meet them. I hated meeting new people, but they all sounded pretty nice and normal, so I was feeling better.
Walking down the corridor toward the parking lot, heading for our cars to head right over to the Wheelers, I overheard Mike and Dustin whispering to each other, "Do you think we should tell Y/N about El?" Dustin asked him, Mike looked annoyed and shocked by his question, shaking his head furiously as he responded. "Are you crazy?!" Mike yelled through a whisper, I had no idea what they meant and I didn't feel comfortable eavesdropping on their thoughts to find out so I let it slide and planned to wait until I met her to see what they were talking about. Eddie wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into him as we walked, "Sooo..." he hummed, a devious smirk spread across his cheeks as he wiggled his eyebrows up and down, "Yes, Eddie. You can drive my car!" I chuckled, passing him my keys as we approached the exit of the school.
