[S. Todoroki] [Soulmate AU]

Another day, another painful message.

Over the past 4/15 years of your life, you've been talking with your soulmate and learning things about him. He had a bad home life, that much was clear simply by the way he would avoid conversations with family. He would ignore you if you ever pushed the topic.

In your superhuman society everyone has a soulmate, and yours was none other than Shoto Todoroki : 4th child of pro hero Endeavor.

The rules of communication with your soulmate was pretty simple; once everyone reaches the age of 10 or 11 you can telepathically speak with your soulmate, no matter how far.

Lucky for you, your soulmate happened to live in Japan, he wouldn't say where and he would never ask to meet up...in fact- he hardly spoke to you at all.

Through your time of talking with Shoto you learned a few things, one being that he hates his father. Extremely. However you also learned some rather simple things, like how his favorite meal is soba and how his quirk works, also that he stopped using his fire a little while after his mom hot admitted into a hospital. Then there was his personality. Shoto is not a very outgoing or social person, instead he's quite stoic and almost irritated constantly.

Through a few years of talking you had shared most of your entire being with Shoto, hoping that it would give him confidence to talk more. Eventually, Shoto did learn to confide in you more and open up a little... and eventually, he did tell you about his family history.

2:34am, Your House (age 13

You sighed heavily as you awoke to a very familiar voice calling to you, "Y/n? Are you awake?" A yawn escaped your lips as you rubbed your eyes and responded, "Yeah- yeah... I'm awake. What's up Shoto?" There was a hesitant pause after you responded, so you closed your eyes again and began drifting back off to sleep, but before you could be reunited with your realm of subconscious, Shoto spoke up, "I...I'm conflicted."

"Oh?" You said to him concerned, "about what?" You could hear a very audible sigh come from Shoto, it was something you often heard. He finally spoke again, "I just...I don't want to be like my father, but the more I see myself, the more I realize just how much we're alike and I din't know what to do." You chuckled and asked, "How are you like him?"

Shoto seemed to be at a loss for words before finally saying, "I-I just- he- *siiighhh* My old man acts so cold to everyone, and when I look into his eyes I can see pure hatred behind them. And when I look into the mirror...I see hatred in my own eyes." You scratched your neck once and said, "Shoto, you're your own person. If you notice little similarities between yourself and your father- that's not abnormal. I still don't get why you hate your dad, so all I can say is that it's perfectly normal for a parent and their child to have similarities."

There was another pause, and then an irritated grunt came from Shoto before he said, "Fine. Since you're so persistent and nosy I'll let you in on my family secret." Your eyes widened and you frantically said, "N-No Shoto- if you don't want to tell me that's okay! I-I tried not to be nosy by giving you space- but..." You rolled over to your side and tears welled in your eyes as you said, "...t
That's how people bond Shoto. They share their likes and dislikes and history. You have to be vulnerable with someone in life to bond."

Tears rolled down your cheeks as you gritted your teeth and said, "If I'm so annoying then you should have cut communication off completely! You're clearly not interested in me or care what I have to say, you only come to me when you're feeling confused or frustrated- only when YOU benefit from it! I-I can't take it anymore. Goodbye, Shoto. Good luck on your path to being a hero." And just like that, communications with Shoto were off for good, or at least until you met in person again.
