"So, how do you propose we get this ship to sail?" Jin asked, nudging Jimin.
Jimin smirked and pushed his sunglasses back up his nose. "I have some ideas. For starters, Taehyung wasn't sure if Jeongguk was into guys. So clearing that up would probably be helpful. I don't think Taehyung is feeling ballsy enough right now to outright ask him."
Jin nodded in agreement. "He's an old soul and doesn't like to be nosy. Not as straightforward as you, Jimin-ah."
Jimin snorted. "He probably just doesn't want to seem too thirsty." Jimin's eyes suddenly grew wide, a lightbulb going on in his head. "Wait! I know what to do!"
He stood up and whistled at Taehyung and Jeongguk, seemingly popping the little bubble they were in across the pool. "Hey babies, come join the group! We're going to play a game."
The two looked at each other and began wading over to the rest of the group. Jungkook bounced up and down in the water, looking eager beneath his bucket hat. "What are we playing?"
Jimin flashed a toothy smile. "Never have I ever!"
Taehyung groaned. "Are we in high school?"
Jimin rolled his eyes. "Don't be such a prude, Taetae. This will be fun. We need to get to know one another better! Come together as a wedding party and support our two beautiful brides."
"We are grooms!" Namjoon yelled.
Jimin continued, unbothered. "Yeah, yeah. Anyway, put up five fingers and get your drink ready. If someone calls out something you've done before, you have to put a finger down and take a drink. Who wants to start?"
Taehyung tried to count his toes through the distorted view of the pool water. He used to love this game, and ice breakers in general. Even at work meetings, he always made dumb get-to-know-you activities fun and relaxed enough to make the most reluctant introverts comfortable enough to play along. But now he disliked them, finding himself much less inclined to share about himself. He wasn't sure why his best friend suddenly wanted to play this game. Maybe he just wanted a reason to gulp his drinks, but he kept giving Taehyung glares that said Cooperate!
Taehyung tried to relax. Whatever, as long as I don't have to go first.
Yoongi smiled. "I'll go. Never have I ever been to Hawaii."
Jimin groaned. "Boo! Boring! Besides, we're all here right now. We've obviously all been to Hawaii!"
Yoongi laughed and shook his head. "Allow me to clarify before this little one short-circuits. I meant before this trip. I've never been to Hawaii before this trip. It's my first time."
"We. Are. The. Same. Height. Relative to you, I am not little," Jimin deadpanned.
Yoongi continued laughing, amused by Jimin's chutzpah. "Fair enough! Anyway, who's drinking?"
Jungkook was the only one to put his finger down. "I am. I've been to Maui before for work, but never to this island. Oahu has been pretty incredible so far," said Jeongguk, meeting eyes with Taehyung who quickly looked down.
"Moving right along!" Followed Jimin impatiently. "I'll go next! Never have I ever been into guys."
Jin snorted. "Subtle, Jimin-ah. And in case you forgot, you are into guys." Taehyung looked between Jin and Jimin with suspicion. Gradually, all six of the group put down a finger.
Jin clapped his hands together. "Yippee! It's an all-play! Everybody drink!"
Jimin and Taehyung looked at each other with wide eyes, and then turned to Yoongi and Jeongguk respectively. "You're gay?" Said the two boys in unison to their persons of interest. The rest of the group laughed at the synchronization between the two best friends.
Yoongi met Jimin's stare with a soft but confident smile. "I'm bi."
Jimin, looking satisfied, then turned to Jeongguk, who took the sudden attention on him as an indication of his turn to share. "I'm bi too." Jeongguk flashed a handsome grin and darted his eyes to Taehyung again, catching him staring and making him blush. Little did he know, Taehyung was internally swooning at his charming smile and squealing at this revelation.
Jin grinned at that. "Aw, bi just like Namjoonie! Three gays and three bisexuals. Looks like we have our beach volleyball teams sorted out!" The group cracked up at this.
"Where does that leave me?!" Yelled the vibrant voice coming from behind the group.
"No way! Hoseok?!" Namjoon stood up with a shocked face, quickly followed by Jin. They both crashed into the young man, hugging him from both sides.
Jin looked flabbergasted. "We thought you couldn't make it!"
Hoseok smiled brightly, giving competition to the brilliant Hawaiian sun. "I know, I know! My ranking officer granted us a surprise leave and I just found out a few days ago. Had to book a plane here and surprise you two! Congratulations on your big day being so close!"
Hoseok, Jin and Taehyung's cousin, was in the middle of his mandatory military service for South Korea. Namjoon, Jin and Yoongi had already fulfilled their mandatory duties, while Taehyung, Jimin and Jeongguk had not yet enlisted.
Jin was thrilled and touched that his cousin would come to Hawaii for this unplanned time off. "This is such an amazing surprise!" Suddenly, Taehyung crashed into Hoseok, hugging him tightly from behind.
"Whoa, cous! Easy with the sneak attacks! This is supposed to be a break from combat training!" Hoseok joked.
Taehyung huffed into his cousin's neck. "Hobi-hyung, I can't believe you're here right now! And safe. And not hurt! This is so amazing!" Taehyung felt himself choke down a rising sob. Fuck, why am I so emotional this trip? Get it together, Taehyung told himself. Getting to see his Hobi-hyung unexpectedly amongst all of the other reunions this week was just overwhelming him with emotion, in a good way.
"Aw, I missed you too TaeTae." Hoseok spun around and hugged his younger cousin again. After Hoseok and Yoongi were introduced (the rest already knowing Hoseok), the group joked and caught up some more.
"Dammit, Hobi! I wish I would've known you were coming. I feel so bad. I could've ordered you a suit to stand up in the wedding, got you a villa with the rest of the group, all that!" Jin sighed, rubbing his face with his hands.
"Don't worry about me, cousin. I'm here to do whatever you need help with. I don't want to interfere with your well-established wedding party as I haven't been involved at this point, but I'm here for you! Let me know if there's anything I can do besides drinking tropical drinks and enjoying your company. And I have a great room in the main hotel, not far at all from the villas!"
The "never have I ever" game had been quickly derailed, but Jimin didn't mind. It served its purpose. Mission accomplished, thought Jimin, as he watched Taehyung and Jeongguk exchanging coy looks.
