Rumfire
Taehyung and Jeongguk briskly walked to Rumfire, their paces aided by their growing buzzes. Taehyung didn't want to appear soured, but his briefly forgotten frustration and anger over his eomma's dinnertime antics was rearing it's head all over again. All thanks to a little text. He couldn't deny that the apologetic tone of her message was surprising, but tonight, he just wanted to forget about it all.
Jeongguk could tell the other was preoccupied as his expression twisted and his pace fastened. They made it to the lively establishment and after entering, spotted their group at the bar where shots were being poured.
"Ah, babies! You made it!" Jin cheered gleefully, until he noticed Taehyung's clenched jaw and darkened eyes.
"Is one of these for me?" Taehyung questioned firmly.
"Obviously," stated Jimin casually, while shooting questioning looks towards Jin and Jeongguk that contradicted his laid-back tone. Jeongguk nodded Jimin away from the group for a moment.
"His eomma texted. She wants to talk to him and apologize, but-"
"But he doesn't want to think on any of it tonight. I know," Jimin cut in. Jeongguk nodded and looked back at Taehyung with concern. The elder was lining up a second shot already.
"I guess you better buckle up, Jeonggukie. This night is bound to get interesting."
"Jimin-hyung..." Jeongguk beckoned, but the elder was already retreating back towards the group. Jeongguk followed and was promptly handed a shot by Taehyung.
"We need to catch up. Cheers, bunny."
Jeongguk felt himself shiver as he met his elder's intense gaze, before clinking glasses with Taehyung and downing his shot. Buckle up, indeed.
Hoseok was about to summon the group to officially introduce the next challenge when obnoxious laughter permeated from a table nearby.
A sizable, handsome young man in a backwards cap and white polo that gripped his bulging biceps was doubling over in laughter. "Never challenge me in a boat race, asshole!"
The group noticed that several large mugs looking recently emptied of beer sat in front of the table's patrons.
"Charming," Jimin scoffed. "What the fuck is a boat race?"
"It's an American drinking game where you basically chug beer relay-style and whichever team finishes first wins," commented Yoongi while sipping his drink. Jimin nodded while he grimaced in the direction of the table.
The young man's friend grumbled something at him, appearing annoyed with his bravado.
"Quit being such a spoiled sport, you fuckin' pussy! Can't even drink a beer like a man."
Despite Taehyung's flaring mood, he tried not to be bothered by the young man's crudeness. Maybe he has low self-esteem and needs these small victories in life. Maybe he's compensating for something. Maybe he has a tiny dick, Taehyung thought, chuckling to himself which caught Jeongguk's eye, making him smile fondly.
"Wow, Trent. Are your beer-chugging skills what got you into Princeton? I thought it was daddy's money," snarked a pretty young woman beside the friend who was getting chastised.
Trent scoffed. "Wow, Ethan. If you're girl can't take a joke and have a good time, maybe you should put a muzzle on her. Oh, wait! You'd like that wouldn't you, Christine? Heard you were a kinky little girl."
The fuck? Taehyung questioned internally. He noticed the rest of his group were trying and failing to ignore the loudmouth at the table near them.
