Trinity's sleepless nights had become the norm. She hadn't slept well since Eric abruptly left without any notice. She remained motionless on her back, wishing she could vanish into thin air. Her baby, her rainbow child, was the only thing that kept her going.Trinity rolled onto her other side to be nearer to her sleeping son, staring at his adorable baby face, caressing his cheek with the side of her hand. His uncanny resemblance to his father's face upset her.
Trinity heard nothing from Eric. He didn't even attempt to check on his son's well-being. The fleeting thoughts of the three of them together added to her annoyance. She threw off the covers and clenched her teeth at the memory of the man she craved. Finally, she sucked in her breath and let out a heavy sigh of frustration.
There was an odd pecking sound coming from outside. Trinity didn't peek; instead, she waited until she heard the sound again before looking in that direction. Her gaze darted crazily about the pitch-black room, eventually settling on a strange shadow formed in the moonlight streaming through the window.
Trinity's eyes widened as she sat up. She squinted at the shadowy figure outside her window. Trinity heard a second knock and some muttering. He brought his face to the glass, cupping his hands around his eyes for a better view. Now she could make out his features; it was Eric.
After jumping off the bed, Trinity almost ran to the nearby window. She effortlessly pushed the window open and helped Eric inside. Trinity embraced him before he could put his weight on the ground. She clung to him desperately, afraid he would abandon her again.
"I missed you too," Eric said lowly.
Trinity curved his attempt to kiss her. There was a sudden shift in her mood from happiness to fury, shooting Eric a glare.
"You missed me? You fucking left us." Trinity spat.
Eric walked past her, "I know, Trin. A lot of shit happened. I'll explain everything, but I need you to get your clothes on now. We're leaving."
Eric went to the closet and took out a jacket and shoes for his kid. Before getting his son ready, he walked over to the bed and kissed him. Trinity was firm in her stance.
"And going where? They're looking for you and I think they're watching me." Trinity told him.
"Who are they?"
"I don't fucking know. Whoever you stole that shit from came here twice already. It's like they were waiting on you to come back." Trinity said emotionally.
"They wouldn't have let me walk in this bitch if they were watching you. Fuck them. Put your stuff on." Eric said
"Not until you tell me what's going on."
"I don't have time right now. So put your shit on!"
"Eric—"
When Eric did a 180, it was as if he were under the influence of a demon. He came charging over to Trinity and aggressively grappled her face. His entire face was painted with a sneering scowl. She recognized the familiar flash of rage in his eyes. Trinity's lip trembled as she tried to keep a straight face.
"You said you wouldn't hit me again." She reminded him softly.
"You make it fucking hard." He shook her as he spoke each word and then pushed her away from him.
Eric started pacing around, hands pressed firmly against his face. He inhaled deeply through his nostrils. Trinity looked at him in silence, at a loss for words. Eric moved closer to her, standing with his hand on his hip.
"I got murder on my fucking hands." Eric revealed, "This stupid ass nigga reached for his fucking piece, and I had no choice. I put his ass down and his friend, too." He got closer to Trinity, "If the motherfuckers you say are looking for me don't get me first, then the boys will. Either way, I'll never see you or Junior again, Trinity. Please, put your shit on so we can go."
