jagi

Chaeryeong remembers the first time Ryujin called her 'jagi'. When they were only girlfriends, the two had gone to Chaeryeong's favourite fine-dining restaurant for a dinner date, and Ryujin was taking a photo of Chaeryeong as she cupped her face cutely over her food. Getting up from seat and coming over to show Chaeryeong the photo, she gasped, "jagi, you look so adorable!"

It had basically slipped out of Ryujin's mouth, but it had surprised them both how comfortable, natural, and just... right that it had felt. And so, to keep things that way, Chaeryeong hadn't said anything about it at the time. Like she didn't really catch it properly.

But she sure caught it. And she secretly loved it.

And if it seemed comfortable to them at the start, it seemed to only get better. Ryujin would call her 'jagi' more and more.

When they were out in public, Ryujin would sometimes say things like, "jagiya, can you pass me some chopsticks please?" instead of "Chaeryeong-ah, can you pass me some chopsticks please?" and each time Chaeryeong would - internally - go a little weak.

At home, the word 'jagi' was used even more often.

When she was going out to the store, she'd say, "I'm just gonna get some groceries, jagi, I'll be right back!"

Or when Chaeryeong had cooked them dinner, she'd say, "This is so tasty jagi..."

Or when Chaeryeong was having a bad day, she'd say so sensitively, "aww... is something wrong my jagi? You know you can tell me anything, I'm here for you."

Or even lately, out of nowhere, she'd say as she gave Chaeryeong a back hug, "I can't believe you're my fiancee, jagi. I'm so lucky... I love you so much."

Every time Ryujin called her the word it made her heart flutter. She loved how it sounded, like butter to her ears. She loved how it was a constant reminder of what she meant to Ryujin, how at home Ryujin felt when she was with Chaeryeong. But most of all, she loved how it made her feel special, like Ryujin was hers, and only hers...

Chaeryeong lay on her right side, watching as the morning's dawn peaks through their new white day curtains.

It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day; the sun's wakening is not shadowed by any white clouds, but rather, it rises in a cerulean blue sky to shine onto her fiancee, Ryujin's, face. Chaeryeong admires the sight. The orange, pink, and yellow rays paint Ryujin's skin in a rich radiance, while the light creeps through the wisps in her baby hairs, adding thin strokes of a burgundy red to the artwork.

She's glowing in her restful peace, and she looks so heavenly to Chaeryeong that she wishes she could freeze the moment in time.

But with the slightest inhale, Ryujin's eyes flutter open.

"Ryeongie?" Ryujin, who's lying on her back, looks to her left to realise her fiancee is already up, "you're already awake, jagi."

"Mm..." Chaeryeong smiles as she hears her fiancee's response, "I am."

Ryujin's eyebrows crease as a confused smirk tugs at her lips, "what's got you smiling like that?"

Instead of answering, Chaeryeong rolls over to be half on top of her fiancee, and nuzzles her head in the crook of her neck.

"Hmm?" Ryujin tries to look down so she could see her fiancee better, "why are you laughing jagi?"
