my second ever oneshot! this one's gonna be in two parts, so stay tuned for the next one coming shortly. based on true events (and a little scenario here & there... shh)

♥ 3rd person pov ♥

Every year, the Year 10 (Sophomore) cohort went on a two-week camp to the Flinders Ranges to learn survival and "leadership" skills (as the teachers liked to call it). This year, it was Ryujin and Chaeryeong's turn.

It was a 12-day expedition: the first five days were spent hiking and sleeping in tents, while the rest of the seven were spent in a town nearby, in dormitories.

Four days had already been. Even though tonight was the last day and they'd be heading off the next, everyone was positively exhausted from the previous three. And thus, they were relieved to be able to crawl into their tents - despite the cold - at the end of the day to get some well-deserved rest until the next dawn.

"We just fit in here!" Chaeryeong laughed, nervously, as she got on all-fours to enter their tent.

"I know right," Ryujin agreed, zipping up the tent door as she entered behind the other, "I don't know how Yeji unnie, Lia unnie and Yuna are fitting in theirs next door."

"Lowkey glad we got a group of only a pair," Chaeryeong said, "though, I might get really chilly without that warmth, especially since most of my clothes got wet before."

"It's okay, you always worry about getting cold, Chae!" Ryujin exclaimed, laughing, "I'm kind of hot tonight anyway, as weird as it sounds I'll probably warm the air up."

Chaeryeong broke into hysterics after hearing this.

True, she hated getting cold and there was plenty of evidence of it. One time when she had a dance recital until late, Ryujin showed up in the middle of winter in only an oversized hoodie to watch. After the performance she got so mad that she slapped Ryujin (playfully albeit hard), before putting heatpacks inside to warm her up.

"I'm literally so tired, Chae," sighed Ryujin, crawling into her sleeping bag, "so relieved we can get out of here soon!"

"Me too," agreed Chaeryeong, "even though our group is the least sick out of everyone, I'm worried what's gonna happen when we merge in town tomorrow."

There were five hiking groups across the cohort, dependent on physical ability. Of course, nominations were able to be put down - which was how all five friends ended up in the same group - however, once at the dorm setting, they'd be completely mixed up.

Chaeryeong, with a slight fear of being unwell (but a large fear of the prospect for her friends), had heard of the gossip that spread whenever two groups crossed. Apparently every group had a different sort of illness that had spread due to someone arriving while infected to begin with. For instance, her and Ryujin's group had the common cold. But some other groups had more serious things, like tonsillitis, gastro, or the flu. Although a bit of a joke to begin, the risk of getting sick herself was becoming an ever-greater possibility.

"I know, Ryeongie, I know," Ryujin pouted, looking up at her friend while she got ready for sleep, "but worrying's not gonna help you much... if there's anything that will it's sleep."

Chaeryeong just sighed, as she drunk some water before sliding into her sleeping bag too.

The two heard sudden squealing from outside their tent.

"I'm so getting top bunk tomorrow night."
"Says you! If I don't get there first!"
"Aren't you two supposed to be the unnies here? STOP BICKERING AND GO TO SLEEP ALREADY!"
