CHAPTER 1: Esa no es tu familia (that is not your family)

SUMMARY:
Carlotta remarried... there goes Carmen's recovery plan

Carmen had been living with her mother and her fiancé for ten minutes... and she was getting a bad vibe from him.

Player had signed off so she could have some privacy with her mothe- family, but now she wished he'd heard what he had said.

Or see the pure look of jealousy on his face when she told them who she was.

"Sweetheart, do you mind helping my daughter with her bag?"

Vester, as she had been told, looked at her with a charming glint in his eye. He placed a kiss to her cheek, "She is our daughter now."

But when Carlotta could only see his back, a vicious glare was cast her way.

"Oh, mi mija." She said adoringly, tucking Carmen into a warm and cosy embrace.

She pulled back, wiping the tears from her cheeks, "Please, I must know what you have been up to."

Carmen's mother did not take the story incredibly well... especially after being egged on by her Fiancé.

"Ay ay ay, carino. Your daughter is a thief!" Carmen flinched when he yelled it, the two only interested in conversing with each other than noticing.

'Thief' had never felt like such a bad word before, it was someone who possessed specific skills. But the way Vester said it stabbed her in her soul with a dagger and twisted.

"Yes, we did not want her to know of VILE but there is nothing we can do," She sighed, "Isabela,"

Carmen was about to mention how she never stole for VILE when the name caught her off guard, "Isabela? ...Is- is that my name?"

Vester exploded at that, "That is not your daughter, Carlotta! She doesn't have your eyes."

"She has his eyes." She said softly, turning somewhat sternly to Vester.

He shut up at that, and Carmen was finally able to retreat to the spare room some time later.

Carmen dialled Player and collapsed with a heaving sigh on the mattress, "Hey, Red. How'd it go?" Player asked.

The thief groaned in response.

"Woah, really, was it not your mum?"

"No." She sighed, "no, it was... it's just-,"

Carmen went to her bag that clearly been tossed across the room, "My mum has a boyfriend, fiancé actually."

Player gaped at that, "Really? Did you say something bad?" "No... but he doesn't really like me."

Carmen grabbed her phone from the front pocket, "It's like... he wanted her all to himself."

"Well that stinks." He said, leaning back in his chair, "Do you think he could get used to you?"

Carmen looked at her door, "We'll see I guess."

Carmen had dinner with her family that night, despite the itch to get out and clear her head... she could wait until tomorrow.

Day 2, 10:38pm

"Mama, I'm going out with Player." Carmen called from the stairs. "What?" She yelled, Carmen could here wedges squeaking down the hall.

Carlotta, in an apron and with Vester following behind her, came to the bottom of the stairs. "You just got back, surely you can wait until morning?"
