Desc: In which Zack and Ivy learn of Carmen's old name.
The people she once called 'company' weren't nearly as comforting as this.
Carmen still had her guard up; that was a fact.
Around Zack, Ivy, Shadowsan, and even Player. It was a blessing and a curse that her oldest friend could see through those lies.
But the others would never get an imposing word to pass through her red painted lips.
Not when she was still new to this idea of family.
Carmen felt extra tense that evening. There wasn't a specified reason behind it; just a churning in her gut that oh-so wanted to rid the toxic waste from her chest.
Carmen swallowed. A dangerous task; the saliva stuck in the back of her throat like glue.
She reached for the water that resided on the coffee table in-front of her, taking an impatient sip.
She should have stopped allowing the siblings to talk her into this after the first roller coaster of events.
"Who are you???" A shaky voice.
"I am... or was..." An emotion far from normal.
"Maria Santiago."
"NOOO!!" Ivy's gasp.
A gun shot.
"And then... there was one." A devastating conclusion.
The screen faded to black, blinking Carmen back to reality. The siblings groaned at the ending; Carmen already settled back into her usual outlook.
Movies were dumb.
"Oh cmon Carm that one was okay?" Ivy whined.
"Yea, it's got its uhh..." a mouthful of popcorn and a seemingly searching expression.
Ivy sighed and groaned, a hand flying to her face.
"I jus can't get over that endin!"
"Fuckin ridiculous." She huffed, marching over to the kitchen.
Carmen followed the woman with her eyes, eventually loosing sight and turning to Shadowsan (or Suhara), as she had recently learnt.
"Did you enjoy the film, Shadowsan?"
She was returned with a practised shake of the head.
"I believe we could have benefitted more if we had spent the many hours now gone plotting our next move." The man grit his teeth, "-which could have been well beyond finished by now."
"The movie was a little predictable." Carmen drawled, turning back to the empty popcorn bowl.
Shadowsan scoffed in agreement.
Just that moment Ivy came back, having messed up the kitchen that luckily wasn't theirs.
"Aww, alright." She whined. "How abouttttt Death on the Nile?"
"Nooooooo, I'm done with these murder mysteries!"
"What?!" Ivy shoved her brother over in disbelief. "Murder mysteries are the best! Back me up Carm."
Ivy turned to Carmen who hadn't spoken a word.
"I don't know Ives, that one wasn't so great."
She only scoffed. "Thats because you're hardly afraid of anything, Boss. You're not exactly making this easy!!"
