Soon, Romina started to wake up, still dizzy as she tried to sit up in bed. “Where am I?” As her vision started to clear, she looked around the room in horror, remembering what had happened. “Khloris betrayed me. I thought I could trust her. She couldn't have sold me out. I need to talk to her.” Walking up to the door, she tried to pull it open, but it wouldn’t budge. “What the…'' She tried again, this time harder, but still nothing.

Realizing that she had been locked in, she started to bang and scream at the door for help. “Please, someone help me! I've been locked in here. Pleaseee.”

“Shut up, Romina!” She knew who that voice was,

“Khloris?” She heard a sigh on the other side of the door, confirming her suspicions. “Khloris, what are you doing? Let me out!”

“I’m sorry, I can’t do that. This is for your own safety.” “What is wrong with you! I thought I could trust you. I thought you were my friend!”

“Maybe I was your friend in the beginning, but then I started to use you. You fell for it too. What made you think I would actually love a pathetic person like you anyway. I got what I wanted. I got the power and spot I deserve. All it took was telling your dad the type of disappointment you really are.” Backing away from the door, Romina tried to control her tears.

                “You don’t really mean that….”

“I do. Don’t you see this is all your fault? You just make things worse.” Romina didn’t recognize the person on the other side of the door, and it hurt more than words could describe. The person she grew up with and fell for used her the whole time just to get her power.

“You can’t hold me here anyway. Someone will come to find me!”

“You really think that, don’t you? Your dad told me to put you here, and everyone thinks you got shipped to a different school. You're never getting out of this tower.”

“You are a monster!” Romina shouted as she hit the door as hard as she could, almost breaking her hand in the process.

“I have to go, but it was nice talking to you, princess.” Hearing her walk away, she fell to the ground letting out all of her tears, crying so much that she made her eyes bloodshot until she heard a knock at the door.

“What do you want, Khloris? Don’t you think you made your point!”

               “It isn’t Khloris…”

               “ Elowyn?”

“Yeah, it's me. Are you okay?” She was so happy that she could jump with joy, she still had someone, and she still had hope.

“Yeah, I am okay. I am so glad to hear your voice.”

“I was so worried that I started to search everywhere. You didn’t show up for school this morning. I asked Khloris, and she told me you got shipped to a different school. I knew this wasn't true, though. What happened?”

“She betrayed me and used me this whole time. I told her how I felt, and she knocked me out and handed me on a silver platter to my dad for a spot of power. She said to me, what made you think I would actually love a pathetic person like you.” It was quiet for a while after that until Elowyn started to speak.

“I am so sorry that happened, I didn’t know she was doing that, but I promise you still have me. I will find a way to get you out of here, but I have to go for now. The night shift is supposed to start soon. Keep acting like you think you aren't getting out so Khloris won’t find out.”

“I will but promise me you will come back?”

“I promise.” Soon she heard her start to sprint down the stairs until she couldn’t hear anything anymore. It was quiet again for a long time until there was another knock on the door. “Keep back. We are coming in.” It was her dad and Khloris.

               “Go away!”

“We brought you some food, water, and books to keep you entertained.”

“Thanks, but no thanks, I’ll starve.” “

"Honey, why did you choose to become a disappointment to this family?”

“A disappointment, really? Me? Why did you choose to be a terrible dad all these years?”

“I have done everything to keep you safe.”

“Safe from what? You and mom haven’t even told me what that is!”

“You have a duty you must do before midnight on your eighteenth birthday. If you don’t, there will be never-ending wars and pain.”

“Oh yeah, and what is that exactly?”

“You must marry a guy before midnight and get power.”

“That sucks because I am not marrying anyone, especially a guy.”

“I have already arranged a marriage for you with that nice soldier boy you are friends with.” “Merek! Are you kidding me!”

“No, you will be tough and ready before marriage on your 18th birthday, end of discussion.” As he left, Khloris followed out, giving Romina a soft glance before shutting and locking the door again.

When your dad was gone, Khloris started to speak again. “You should really listen to him, you know?”

“Oh yeah, and what do you care? You ain't my friend remember?”

“I used to be your friend, though, so a part of me does care to see what happens to you.” “What would exactly happen to me?”

“If you don’t marry the guy, you will never get out, and your dad said he will sentence you to be hung.”

“That is better than living a life I’m forced to live.”

“See, you're pathetic. Why would you do that?”

“You just don’t understand, do you? I want to live and love who I want. If that isn’t here, so be it. I will be hung and live somewhere else in the afterlife.”

“Fine, you do you, princess.” Not long they both fell asleep leaning on their side of the door.
