Grace and Hermione pressed themselves as far back to the wall as possible, as the troll looked around. Grace heard the door open again and Harry and Ron ran in. Grace looked at Hermione who seemed to be frozen in place, then back at the troll who was blundering towards them. The two girls dove under the sinks and covered their heads, as the troll raised his club and swung it, just barely missing their heads. The girls screamed, and kept moving under the sinks, as the troll smashed each one off the wall. Grace and Hermione each dove into a stall.
Grace saw the troll move towards her stall through the crack in the door. Grace dove under the bottom of it into one two stalls away, silently cringing from the germs on the floor. Grace heard the door smash open two doors away, and a confused grunt from the troll. Grace opened the door to her stall and covering her eyes, she yelled "Peek-a-boo!".
Grace closed the door and moved down the stalls again, and as she heard her door smash, Hermione joined in. "Peek-a-boo." Her voice was faint, but it was affective. As the troll got to Hermione's door, Grace opened hers and repeated the same sentence. She had no idea how long they could keep it up before the troll had all the doors smashed, but she just hoped they could wear the troll out, and not vice versa.
Suddenly Ron yelled, coming to Hermione's aid. "Oy, pea brain! Over here!"
The troll immediatly turned on Ron, who distracted he troll while Harry jumped onto his back, his wand accidentally sticking in his nose. Grace watched as Harry tried pulling the troll back by his neck, only to get thrown off like he was riding a bull. Harry quickly got up again and Ron pulled out his wand.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" He exclaimed, pointing it at the fallen club. The club rose up in the air, but Ron had trouble keeping control of it, and the spell broke. The club came crashing down and knocked the troll out cold. Hermione slid down the wall, and rested her head against it. Ron stared at the troll, amazed that he had actually been able to cast the spell.
Suddenly the door burst open and a few teachers filed into the girls bathroom. Professor McGonagall quickly looked around, taking in the damage. Her lips were pressed in a thin line, and when she spoke anger radiated from her voice. "What on earth has happened here."
It was a rhetorical question, Grace realized, as Professor McGonagall knew perfectly well what had happened.
Snape looked away from the troll, and turned towards Grace. "Miss Potter, get down from the toilet."
Grace looked down. She hadn't realized she was standing on the back of the toilet, where the water was held. She stepped down and walked over to where Ron was, his wand in the air. Grace slowly pushed his arm down, not breaking eye contact with Snape. This is it. She thought. Goodbye Hogwarts, goodbye magic.
"I want one of you to tell me what has happened here. One of you. I want to know why it is, that the four of you aren't in your common room, but instead in a destroyed bathroom with an unconscious troll in it." Professor McGonagall said.
Grace opened her mouth to talk, but Hermione beat her to it.
"Professor, please don't punish them! I came looking for the troll because I thought I could beat it myself since I've read about them, and Harry and Ron tried to stop me. Me and Grace probably would have been dead by now had they not come. They didn't have time to fetch anyone."
"What about Miss Potter here." Snape drawled nastily.
Grace's heart was thudding. Hermione wasn't a teachers pet like people though she was, but Grace never imagined Hermione would completely lie like this to teachers.
"Grace was just using the washroom when we came in. It wasn't her fault, she didn't run away to find the troll, but she helped us beat it."
"But why wasn't Miss Potter at the Feast, hm?" Snape asked. Quirrel was sitting on a toilet, his head going back and forth between them all.
"I wasn't feeling good." Grace said. "I didn't want to go to the feast and risk getting sick infront of everyone, so I came to the washrooms."
"You don't look sick now. You look perfectly fine. Perhaps Miss Potter is lying to us." Snape sneered.
"Seeing a troll in the bathroom with you is enough to make anyone be scared enough to feel a little less sick. It's a wonder that they haven't fainted from the shock." Professor McGonagall said. "However it may be, they are in my house. Therefore it is my job to punish them."
Grace reached her hand out and clasped Hermione's wrist. She squeezed fairly tightly, but Hermione didn't make a squeak.
"Five points each for Gryffindor, except for Miss Granger. Miss Granger has lost her house five points. Now, off to bed. All of you."
Grace started walking, smiled at Professor McGonagall and said 'Thank you, Professor.' as she left. As the door was closing behind them all, Grace heard Snape complaining.
"Did you see the way she said that, Minerva? 'Thank you, Professor.' Minerva did you not hear thhe smug tone she used, nor that smirk on her face?"
Snape stopped abruptly when McGonagall interupted him. "It's called a smile, Severus. You should try it sometime."
Grace tried to hold in a laugh as she walked down the hallways with Harry, Ron and Hermione. Grace could tell Hermione was feeling better despite losing some points, and that made her happy. Bcause finally, Ron and Harry accepted Hermione as a friend.
