Song Line Story

Hello. This was something I wrote in English today. We were meant to write a story that was inspired by a line of our favourite song. The song I choose is Demons by Imagine Dragons and the line that I choose from the song is "When the days are cold". That line inspired this story. I DO NOT OWN IMAGINE DRAGONS NOR THEIR SONGS.

The streets were grey and empty, the houses that were still standing were abandoned and dark. The lights had all died and it was cold. So cold.

The little window that I looked at of from this basement was dirty, but still clean enough to see through. I saw the dark streets with no lights and the abandoned grey houses that stood on the edge of those streets.

Behind me, I heard the rustling of Amy as she got out of bed to get ready for the day, or the grayness that we call day and we call night, as well. As usual, a few minutes after Amy got out of bed, some music was turned on to wake everyone else.

"When the days are cold,"

I sat there and thought, 'These words sure do fit the cold, harsh reality that we are stuck in now,'

"And the cards all fold,

And the saint we see,

Are all made of gold.

When your dreams all fail,

And the ones we hail,

Are the worst of all,

And the blood's run stale"

As the words were sung, I sat looking out of the window, thinking, 'How ironic. Our 'saints', the ones we hail, that we saw to be perfect betrayed us.'

The music turned off, leaving the room in silence as everyone emerged from their restless sleep in their makeshift beds. But I was left all alone, staring out the window, as the lyrics of that song played in my head on repeat.

"Come on, Jack," Amy's voice called from behind me, "Another day has begun, and so we must begin with it."

I sighed and turned around, "All right."

I hope this was good. Thank you for reading. Comments are welcome.
