Chapter 35: Loyalty

"Mizako Naoko, its nice to meet you all outside of a glass box."

Naoko bowed slightly from her end of the table as she then took her seat back again. Everyone was back in the conference room. It had been nearly a week since after showing Naoko the video and that she agreed to becoming an addition to the 2nd Chamber. 

A week of her trying to prove her trustworthiness by disclosing any information she had about the Central to all the members during group discussions.

And now was the final step. The final possible thing she could do to truly prove her undying loyalty.

"Mizako Naoko, you've mentioned earlier that the VCO's internal ranking system outside of Japan is highly nepotistic.. which means that not nearly every top ranking Investigator is as skilled as the ones available here.. correct?"

"Correct. We were transmissioned to the UK about a couple years to compensate for their lack of Investigators during the sudden vampire inflation. The Top 5 present there were careless about their identities, their decisions. I remember all of their names, how many lives were lost because of their carelessness."

Naoko replied back to Haechan, perhaps the most skeptical about her than anyone, as he took his time to ensure everything she said matched up with the data we collected, and it did.

"I see. That was the last of my questions for now."

Jaemin muttered a 'finally' under his breath, audible to only the two Dream members sitting on each side of his as they tried to keep a straight face. Soobin then took over the discussion.

"You've proven to be loyal, Mizako. However, I'm sure you've noticed an obvious ongoing trend within the 2nd Chamber."

She exhaled, tilting her head down to stare at her intertwined hands on the table.

"In order to be a part of 2nd Chamber.."

Soobin walked over towards Naoko's direction, eventually stopping behind her seat and grabbing the two ends of the backrest.

"..you need to be a vampire."

Soobin announced quietly as Naoko perked up.


"What? How is that even possib-"

"You never wondered how Yoona became a vampire? Or did you just assume she had always been one."

Beomgyu questioned from the other side of the table. Naoko's eyes searched the room to eventually come to a rest at Yoona as she glanced between Yoona, Hyejin and Beomgyu.

"So.. are you-"

"Yoona and I were born humans. We were turned due to unfortunate circumstances."

"But-but what if I don't want to turn? What if I want to stay a human? I-I can't, I can't kill people just to satisfy hunger, I can't do it, I can't-"

"You won't have to."

Beomgyu responded, as he cut off her panicked statement. Naoko glanced back at him, looking away from the table as she lifted her hand from her hands and saw him glancing at Hyejin instead.

"None of us kill people unless absolutely necessary even though your kind despises us. Unlike humans, we don't go and kill our opponents just because we're scared, even though we're very much so capable of it. Unlike your kind, your Investigators, we don't commit mass genocide on a species just because of hatred unless you crossed the line."

"There's a lot you don't know about our kind. Like the fact that we're not all heinous monsters, curses from hell, demons. The fact that a lot of us are victims."
