"You won't feel any changes until your first full moon. The insane hunger would start to trigger your body into turning and it's going to be painful that day, so we need you to inform any of us when that happens."
Naoko nodded as Dawon explained any possible effect to her. She was sat on a single bed in her room that she now shared with Yoona. Dawon took out an empty syringe from the small box he placed on the bed, sticking the thin needle into his blood vessel on his wrist as he sucked out as much blood as the syringe would hold in it.
"Since you're still human, we can't really give you the wrong blood type for your body to reject it. So incase you were wondering, that's why it's me doing this."
She acknowledged his explaining once again as Dawon pulled out the needle and quickly swiped it off with anti-septic once as he directed for Naoko to tilt her head. Dawon then slowly pushed the needle into a blood vessel in her neck, pushing his blood into her blood stream when Naoko twitched. Soon he pulled the needle out, wiping the spot with a cotton and placed a small cover-up on the puncture in her neck.
"Did.. Yoona and the other guy also go through this? The whole blood type thing, I mean."
Dawon was placing everything back into a box when he sighed, placing his hands on his knees.
"His name's Beomgyu. And no, actually. They weren't nearly as fortunate, you see. Yoona got taken advantage of while Beomgyu nearly died in an accident. They both got found and brought here by Hyejin and Soobin."
"Oh.."
"Don't try to pity either of them, especially Yoona. She-"
A knock on the door interrupts Dawon as the doorknob turns and Yoona enters her now shared room, closing the door right behind her.
"Jisung's calling you. I'll take it over from here."
Dawon sighed, putting everything back in the box as he clicks it shut and gets up from the bed side, walking over to the door, closing in on Yoona.
"It's okay, I already finished it up. By the way.."
He leans into Yoona's side, back facing Naoko as he lowers his voice.
"Tell her what might happen when she starts turning. Talk to her. We can't run this gang without trust."
It was now Yoona's turn to sigh. She nodded nevertheless as Dawon patted her shoulder and left the room. Yoona walked over towards her bed which was parallel to Naoko's and sat down, knees facing Naoko's bed.
"When you turn.."
She started, tone clearly uninterested.
"You'll feel hunger. Insane hunger. No matter what you eat, nothing will satisfy you. Your body will start feeling fatigue and go out of control. The scent of blood, any blood out in the open, even the tiniest amount will be enough to set you off. If you don't tell us about your symptoms, you might go crazy and even kill someone."
She watched to see Naoko's eyes widen.
"Is.. is that what happened with you and.. you and Beomgyu?"
Naoko asked, voice weak and frail. Yoona sighed again as she leaned back on her arms on the bed.
"No. Me and Beomgyu killed, but never just to feed ourselves. We had to, otherwise we would die instead. There are several in this base who killed to feed though. And they've killed other not only humans."
"Then how did you.."
Yoona scoffed.
"You're asking a lot from the person you betrayed, you know that?"
Naoko's lip quivered. Her eyes started to sting as her vision started to blur.
"I.. I didn't-"
"Hanseo. He did this. Did this to me."
Silence. Silence filled the room. Deafening silence.
It didn't last long, being filled in with the shaky breath of Naoko.
"Does it feel good, Naoko? Does it feel good to know the guy you fucked was not only your best friend's boyfriend but also a monster? Does it feel good to know that he was a monster, not because he was a vampire but because he did this to me? Because he did this to your best friend? Tell me it was worth it, Naoko. Tell me fuc-"
"I DIDN'T DO IT!"
She broke. Naoko had broke. Heavy tears ran down her face with her labored and unsteady breathing, her body trembling ever so slightly.
"I didn't do it, I didn't do it, I didn't do it, I- I didn't.."
Yoona looked at Naoko curling herself into a ball as she tried to shift to the corner between the walls on her bed, to make herself as small as she could when something ached in her chest. Guilt.
Looking at Naoko, knowing she caused this to happen to someone who used to be her.. her friend. Her best friend.
Flashes of memory from the past ran through her head. Laughing, crying, having fun, all the good and bad moments..
It made her sick.
It made her sick to know she put Naoko in this state.
Yoona scrambled out of her bed and went towards Naoko, carefully sitting beside her as she held her ever so lightly. She was shaking so much now.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't do it, I didn't want to do it, I didn't want to hurt you, I didn't want you to find out like that, I'm sorry Nana, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.."
Nana.
"Are we still going to the arcade later?" A girl asked Naoko as she smiled back to her.
"Yeah, obviously! It's you, me, Hyejin and.." Naoko counted everyone around her before realizing someone was missing. Looking around in the crowd at the school hallway, she spotted that final person.
"NANA! COME ON, WE'LL BE LATE! I HAVE A CURFEW!" Naoko yelled as Yoona saw and heard her, smiling as she ran towards their little group.
Nana. It'd been years since someone called Yoona that. It was always only one person who did call her that. One person, who always called her that except the times they got serious. Except the times they cried together on each other's shoulder. It had been years.
Yoona ran her fingers through her hair, trying to calm her down as Naoko continued sobbing.
"Sh, sh.. It's okay.. I'm not mad."
Naoko only continued to repeat her words, almost chant it as if she couldn't hear Yoona talk. As if she wanted so bad to prove herself.
"I'm sorry too."
