They set off into the night, backpacks over their shoulders full of things they might need during the trip, Chishiya held a flashlight in one of her hands and with the other she beckoned Akira to follow, the girl followed him through the dark and empty streets. They had just finished eating but even with that she felt an emptiness in her stomach that did not bode well. They both walked in silence to a certain point on the road, where Chishiya pointed to an old gray car.

- That car doesn't use gasoline but Diesel, it doesn't require a microchip or any modern technological implement. I found it this morning when I went out, it will help us to get to the beach. - Chishiya explained as he got closer and closer to the car.

- Wow, I would never have known how to differentiate a car like this from a completely normal one, do you like cars?- asked Akira surprised by the discovery.

- I don't really care about them.

They put the bags in the back of the car and thanks to a bridge made by Chishiya they were able to start their journey, with the blond as the driver and Akira as the co-driver. The ride was silent but not uncomfortable, Akira made sure to close all the windows so the cold air of the ride wouldn't bother them and insisted that Chishiya get another white sweater of the kind he liked to wear, in compensation for the one he stained with blood the night before, by putting it over Akira's shoulders. Maybe it was a bit ridiculous but Akira felt she owed Chishiya a big favor for all he was doing for her, so as they both ate in silence she promised herself that she would stay by his side and take care of him as best she could until this whole adventure was over or failing that her own life would end.

Out of pure curiosity Akira reached out her hand to the radio in front of her and turned it on, encountering a curious but startling white noise. Her eyes widened like saucers and she exclaimed.

- The radio works!

Chishiya hid a smile as soon as her eyes met Akira's expression, and helplessly thought about how pretty she looked when she wasn't thinking about anything sad or scary, when the sparkle in her eyes showed her happiness ignorant of the cruel past that haunted them.

- Yes, it's one of the few things that work, but without active transmitters you won't find anything but white noise - answered the boy making his gaze return to the road in front of him.

Akira said nothing at that explanation, just watched the radio totally dumbfounded and feeling a bit of hope and nostalgia for the world he used to inhabit before entering the Borderland. Out of the periphery of her eye she saw Chishiya hold something out to her, She looked at it intently, in her hand she held a nameless cassette. Akira took the device with a smile and inserted it into the radio cassette deck. A slow, sweet melody started coming out of the device, backed by a lullaby-like guitar base, totally warm and comforting. John Lennon's voice slowly began to enter the song, singing lyrics that to Akira were good rhymes to pass the time, but to Chishiya that song has more meaning than it appeared and each phrase spun through his head making him feel different.
