The Weak And Helpless (Yona of the dawn)

The Bottom of The Valley

My eyes flutter open as a young man with short drown hair and big blue eyes with pale, smooth skin looks down at me. I shot up from where I lay my head getting dizzy, I could feel my strength starting to drain away already.

"Wow, wow, wow!" The boy argued as he grasped my shoulders and lay me back down onto a blanket and pillow on the floor. "W-w-w-who are you?" I ask weakly. The boy turns his head to me and shoves a sliced piece of apple in my mouth.

"You look pale, eat this." He mumbles turning away from me and getting up to grab an other apple the boy bit into it and began to eat and watched me, waiting for me to eat my own apple slice.

I bit into the apple slice and he nodded in satisfaction and got up. I staggered up and followed him to Yona who lay on a blanket and pillow as well. "Go get an orange." The boy said to me looking over his shoulder as I walk up behind him. I nod my head silently and do as he asks not wanting to argue with him.

As I handed him the orange I mumbled lightly "Thanks, for helping me..." the boy grasp the orange from my hand. "No problem." He replies as he peels off the skin and cuts a thin slice.

He squeezes the orange over Yona's face and a drop of juice slips from the fruit into her mouth. Her eyes slowly open to look up at the boy. "Your awake...." the boy says popping the orange slice into Yona's mouth.

"Who are you?" She asks pulling the orange slice out of her mouth. "I'm Yun. I'm just a passing, handsome boy, so you don't have to remember me. Who are you three?" The boy answers. I bend down and look at Yona "I'm sorry..... I couldn't help you.

I tried to stop something like this from happening!" I say to her apologetically. Yun looks at me with curious eyes waiting for me to still answer his question. I turn away from Yona and look at him "I'm May " I say staring now at at Hak with worried eyes.

Yun continued to look at us. " To survive a fall from that cliff you must be pretty tough." I shake my head and turned toward my belt but it was gone. I scream. "Where's my belt!" I shout angrily.

Yun's eyes widen in shock and he holds his hands out in peace. "Over there!" He said pointing a finger toward a wall. I hurried up and snatched the belt and checked to see I had all my daggers and went back to sit next to Yona as she finished her orange slice.

Suddenly Yona shoots out of bed "Hak! Where's Hak!" She shrieks worriedly. "Hak. Oh, the black haired man you were with is over there." Yun answers nodding his head toward Hak.

Yona and I hurried over to see his conduction. I wince as I see him covered up in blood soaked bandages. Me and Yona stares worriedly at him. "He's alive, just barley." Yun says behind us.

"I removed the poison, but he had a cut on his chest, and he's bruised all over. A bunch of his rids are broken, too. He's lost so much blood. If he'd received treatment any later, he would've died. He probably protected you during your fall." Yona snaps her head toward Yun.

"What?" She asks "He protected me...from the fall.....?" Yun walks out side and begins to rummage through a plant in a pot. "He was holding you when you fell." Yun says Picking around five random leaves from the plant and stands up again turning to Yona.

"The trees must of cushioned your falls. Why is he so devoted to you? Is he your lover?" Yun asks waking back inside the house. "No, not at all." Yona replays. Yun sighs heavily "I feel bad for him." I nod my head in agreement holding back a small laugh. Yun turns to me.

"How did you survive the fall?" I blink and pull out my yellow dagger. "This little dagger of mine saved my life, stabbed into any tree I got close to, to block most of the fall. But by the time I got to the ground I was exhausted and fainted. Pretty pathetic uh?" Yun nodded his head but didn't comment on me being pathetic.

"Is this the bottom of the valley? Do you live here?" Yona asks as he looks around and room with curious eyes. "I guess." Yun replies. "Are you a doctor? I'm looking for someone. " Yona begins but is cut of my a panicked voice. "Yun, Yun! Listen, listener to this!" Cried the voice.

I turned my head toward the door and a man stumbled in wearing a white rob and pants with a green price of cloth wrapped around his waist and tied. He had pale skin like Yun's but looked older and was covered in bruises and mud.

He had blond hair that was up in a braided pony tail, but he had bangs that were to short to put up and hung over his eyes. "Hay! Why are you covered in mud?!" Yun scolds as he turns toward the man.

"I was praying for everyone's happiness when I slipped and fell..." The man argues stepping away a little bit and falls backwards, a cloud of dust surrounding him. As I watched I pulled out a handkerchief from my pocket dress and dipped it in a near by bucket of water. I walked over to the man and helped him sit up.

I sat in front of him and began to clean the dust and mud off his face. "You should be more carful mister, you could get seriously hurt one day." I said as he stares at me shocked. I had finished cleaning his face and grasps his arm and began to clean it.

"For someone so clumsy your probably shouldn't wear all white." I suggested as I finished both his arms and quickly cleaned is legs. I got up and helped him up, I looked him up and down.

"Speaking of clothes you should probably put on a new pair." I mumble. "What a bother, heaven as abandoned you!" Yun told the man. The man groaned but then turned his head and saw Yona. "Your awake! Thank goodness!" He said smiling at her and gave me a smile of recognition as well.

Yona whines in confusion "Hello my name is Ik-su. I'm something like Yun's guardian." The man said introducing himself "Um, I'm...." Yona muttered but stopped, I could tell she was unsure wether it was safe to reveal who she was.

Ik-su began to cry "It must of been very hard..." Ik-su murmured as he looked at her. "No, I didn't...Hak protected me from the fall..." Ik-su straightened his back "No, I am impressed you had the resolve to go on this journey." Yona looked dumfounded as she looked at Ik-su who began to rant happily.

"To think that Princess Yona herself would...." I cupped my hands over my mouth hiding a smile. "Wait!" Yona complained. "How do you know who I am?" Ik-su looked at Yona joyfully a large smile on his face. "Oh, the gods told me...." A panicked looked spread across Ik-su's face as he said this.

Yun looked at him not surprised "Are you stupid? How could you tell her all that? What's the pint of living here in secrecy? You really don't know how to lie." Yun continued to scold.

"Are you...." Yona said as he stares at Ik-su. Ik-su scratched the back of her head nervously "I'm sorry princess, I meant to receive you in a proper attire." I got up and dusted myself off causing Yun, Ik-su, and Yona to stare at me. " I better get going." I said stealing a worried glance at Hak longing to stay and see if he was ok but I would only be a burden to all of them.

Ik-su stumbled toward me "Wait!" He cries as I began to walk toward the door. I turned toward him, "Where will you go?" He asked. I thought about this for a moment and dread sank into my heart. That's right I had nowhere to go. "I'll go home." I lied, Ik-su shock his head.

"What home, May? You don't have one." I shrugged his statement off. "I have family who will take care of me." Ik-su folded his arms. "What family?" He questioned. I turned my back to him, stupid gods.

"Fine, I don't have a home, and I don't have a family, I don't have any where to go." I growled embarrassed. "But that doesn't change anything cause, I'm not gonna stay here either. I'd just cause trouble, I know my place." Sympathy and worry spread across Ik-su and Yona's face and even Yun's just a little.

I begin to march out the door and ignore there cries for me to come back. Knowing or more hoping I was doing them a favor, the last thing they needed was a weak defenseless little girl like me.
