Leana Williams

Trying to be strong since that night was one of the biggest challenges of my life. After that your life takes on a different meaning, you can't breathe, your voice won't leave your body, the air is so thick you drown in it. You can't eat anymore, you cry yourself to sleep, you bathe four times a day feeling dirty, vulnerable, as if even the dogs couldn't get near you. I fucking suck, goddamn it.

I tried with all my strength to look ahead, to stand up. I was the victim. Nobody helped me. I lost my parents when I was 15 years old. I lived with my grandparents until I was 19, after that I had to work to go to university, but I graduated at 23. I worked in a bar in Florida, a small bar, lonely and insipid but it ruined my life. Every night it got worse, men had no respect for you. And so it happened. I screamed at the top of my lungs but no one listened. There was never any blame. There was never justice. But I live with that pain every day of my life.

I paid for the taxi and got out to find a huge building with glass reflecting the sun. I entered through the front door and a woman approached me with a friendly smile.

"Welcome, you must be the new engineer?" she held out her hand in greeting which I received politely.

"I'm Leana Williams" I smiled nervously. All around were hundreds of people working, walking back and forth in their orange, grey and some black uniforms.

"Nice to meet you Miss Williams, I'm Claire" she said as she flipped through her work agenda "Zak must be waiting for you" she closed her work agenda. She must be one of Zak Brown's secretaries. The woman gave me directions to Mr. Brown's office. I thanked her for her help and headed for the elevator. Once inside, I called the fourth floor. My interview with McLaren had to be perfect, I really want and need the job. They had called me a couple of days ago for the interview. From the moment of their call I was nervous. It was the first time I dared to go out into the world after months. My mind was determined to go on, my soul needed to feel good. Five months before I had relapsed, the only solution to keep me going was drugs. I am not addicted, but drugs helped a lot in the evenings when the loneliness and that night came back to my mind. I never had any real friends. Stacy my only friend walked away from me when I stopped working in that damn bar. I was alone, and that's how I survived.

The elevator doors opened pulling me out of my thoughts and I took a few steps outside. Ok which of these thousands of doors is it I whispered . I was walking along looking to the side when a door opened to my left.

"See you later Daniel" spoke a tall white haired man. I think he is Zak.

"Bye mate" replied Daniel and then turned to me and gave me a smile. I shyly returned the gesture and then he left.

"Good morning, I'm Zak, you must be the new engineer?" the man spoke to me. Honestly I never had a good impression of men, I always judged them before I met them, even more so after that night. But this man looked friendly and that gave me a bit of confidence.

"Am I?" I asked confused. I thought it was an interview "I'm so sorry, yes I'm Leana Williams" I shook my hand nervously. It wasn't even the first hour there and I had already been disrespectful.

"Don't worry, it's your first day. It's impossible not to be nervous" he laughed noticing my face red with embarrassment. "Please come in" he stretched out his hand and stepped aside to let me into his office. Once inside he closed the door and motioned for me to take a seat around the rectangular table. My hands were sweating.

"Can I offer you something to drink?" Zak took a seat at the far end of the table backwards the beautiful view that the windows of the building reflected from outside.
