XIII

I looked at the time on the clock on the wall 7:26 a.m. Mick should be here any minute. Since I opened my eyes this morning I felt my mind sure of itself, no one would ruin my fun today, not even Lando, I'm going to ignore him until he takes back his words.
I grabbed my small suitcase and briefcase and left the room to wait downstairs and not waste any time. I sat on the sofa in the hotel reception waiting for Mick's message and my phone started ringing.

"Hey bestie" I said answering Carmen's call.

"Hello little girl" she replied. I hadn't seen the girls since London but we talked all the time in the wags group, I know I'm not one but the girls insisted on adding me "I just landed and I'm on my way to the hotel, where are you?" she asked.

"Oh great, I'm waiting for Mick" I spoke quickly, I knew Carmen would question me "And before you say something stupid, it's not a date we're just going surfing" I added quickly.

"Oh yeah, beach, swimming costume and skimpy clothes" she laughed on the other side and I rolled my eyes.

"Shut up, we're just friends" I said a little annoyed.

"You're not just a friend to Mick," Carmen said confidently.

"Why does everyone think he's in love with me just because he treats me nice" I said plopping down on the couch "It's annoying".

"Ok, I won't talk about it anymore" Carmen defended herself "So tell me about Lando, how are things going?" She asked and honestly I don't want to talk about him either.

"Can we please not talk about boys? I'm exhausted" I said sitting down on the couch.

"Fine" she sighed "If George doesn't need me I'll go to the beach with you, I miss you" Carmen said.

"Yesss, I miss you too" I replied and made myself comfortable on the couch. All the other girls would be arriving tomorrow before the race, but Kelly told me she wouldn't be coming because she had other commitments in Monaco. I spent a few moments talking to Carmen about the party tomorrow, what dress we were going to wear and all that girl stuff.
I got a text from Mick saying he was outside, I said goodbye to my friend and put my phone in my suitcase.

"Hi!" He said hugging me, he was wearing blue shorts and a white t-shirt, Haas cap and sunglasses.

"Good morning!" I said hugging him back.

"I have a present for you" he said holding up a small bag in front of me "I figured you didn't have one of these so I bought it for you" he said pulling out his sunglasses.

"Oh my god, I love it!" I said taking the surf suit out of the bag "Thanks Mick, you didn't have to do that" I smiled and he blushed.

"It's just a gift for my beautiful friend" he said grabbing my briefcase and suitcase and climbing into the boot of his truck.

I can do it, come on Leana don't be a coward, all the people are watching, breathe, concentrate. I was trying to encourage myself by following the directions Mick had given me a moment before. Lie down on the board, paddle with your arms and then stand up, yeah I got it.

"Come on Lea, you can do it!" Mick shouted from the shore, I wasn't that far away actually and I think I forgot one small detail, I don't know how to fucking swim.
Totally regretting having proposed this idea I started paddling with my arms, Jesus Christ why do people do this sport? After a few minutes I decided to stand up like Mick had taught me but as expected I fell into the water, when I surfaced the blond driver was already next to me.

"I'm scared, I can't do it" I said and refused to get back on the board.

"Yes, you can" Mick said getting on the board "Go to the shore and watch. Then we'll do it together" he commanded and I obeyed. I got to the shore and sat down on the blanket and took out my phone to take a picture of Mick.
