'What do we have here?'

I scrambled off Lo'ak quickly did the same us both standing up and getting as far away from each other as possible.

I looked up at where the voice had come from and found myself staring into the eyes of Jake Sully.

Crap.

'Come on you two, back to the pod.' Jake says, grabbing his son who had his head in his hands with embarrassment. I wanted to ground to swallow me up, there's no chance that Lo'ak's father had just caught me straddling his idiot son. I followed behind the two sheepishly as we made our way into the main Sully Pod. We entered and saw Neytiri sat in there sharpening her weapons.

'Found them,' Jake says sitting next to Netytiri. 'Sit.'
We both sat down mumbling 'yes sir.' I couldn't even look at Lo'ak I felt that embarrassed. Neytiri looks at us all feeling the awkward tension in the air.

'Dad-'
'Lo'ak-'

They both started talking at the same time.

'I'm not stupid you two, I was your age once.' Jake began his lecture, 'I get it, you're getting to that age where you must choose a mate, and well, it looks like you've already chosen.' I look up curiously at Jake's words. 'I know this is a very awkward situation for all of us right now, and I'd rather not be asking this question. Have you mated'

Jake cringes at his question causing Lo'ak to groan pulling his knees up to his forehead his head in his hands. My cheeks flush at this question and I close my eyes slowly.

'Dad, no we haven't it was just harmless it was literally nothing.'

My eyes opened sharply as I finally turned to look at Lo'ak. Nothing? That's what I was to him?

'No- Mai, not nothing. Agh you know what I mean, dad please can we be done here. We haven't that's all that needs to be said.' Lo'ak stutters. I couldn't help but repeat his words in my head.

Nothing

Jake looked at the both of us, seeing my sad eyes and Lo'ak's wide, flustered ones.

'You may leave, now please go back to your own pods. No more sneaking around I'm serious. If Tonowari or Eywa forbid, Ronal catches you. Who knows what they'll think of my parenting. Scram.'

Lo'ak and I scramble up and rush hurriedly out of the door making our way out of the pods. Our once romantic setting had turned into a horrible, awkward one. I was about to turn into my shared pod with Kiri when Lo'ak grabs my wrist. His pod was next to ours shared with Neteyam.

'Mai. I didn't mean what I said. You know that right? I was just embarrassed of my dad catching us and asking us that question. I'm sorry.' He reaches his hand up towards my cheek caressing it.

'I love You Mai, I see you.' Lo'ak says planting a kiss on my lips.

'I love you,' I sigh kissing him back, 'I'm tired though. We'll talk about this tomorrow.'

Lo'ak smiles at me before bowing down jokingly and kissing my hand,

'Of course m'lady.' He says. I push him off laughing at his weird actions.

'Go to bed skawng.' I say heading into my tent looking at Kiri who was thankfully asleep soundly. I jump into my hammock and lay looking at the stars smiling to myself.

NETEYAM'S POV

I heard movement from outside of my tent so immediately went to check it out. I glance over at Lo'ak's hammock and noticed him not to be there.

Skxawng.

I peeked through a hole in the tent and saw Mai and Lo'ak stood on the roped bridge his hand on Mai's cheek. I heard a few words like 'I'm sorry' be exchanged from Lo'ak to Mai. I feel my heartbeat fast as I see Lo'ak kiss Mai. Jealousy seeped through my veins as I thought to myself about how I knew Mai first, I fell in love with her first, but she didn't even see it.

'I love you, I see you'  I hear from the tent.

My chance was gone, she was in love with my skxawng ass brother. She has no idea of the hurt on my face whenever she asks me about him. Lo'ak has no idea about how I notice he comes in late at night sighing happily to himself when I lay awake curling my toes up at my happy brother.

I hear laughing and footsteps approaching so I quickly run and jump into my hammock before Lo'ak notices I am awake. He walks in and I have my back turned facing the pod wall. I hear him laughing to himself silently and hopping into his hammock. I grimace at my brothers happy sounds.

I want to be happy for him, I really do. I've tried my hardest throughout the months.

But that's impossible when he loves the girl that I do too.
