Chapter 14: Through Many Dangers, Toils and Snares

1 month later, the girls are in orange jumpsuits picking up trash at a park. Hanna says, "Only an hour and thirty minutes to go." Avery says, "I think it's more like two hours, but who's counting?" A girl looks at another girl and she says, "How many hours you got left?" The second girl says, "Six months." The first girl says, "But your momma's not a big-shot lawyer getting you and your pals community service for tampering with evidence." The second girl says, "I thought you said they killed somebody." The first girl says, "That's what the cops think, but the cops can't prove it." The second girl chuckles and says, "Cops are stupid." Emily looks at the girls and says, "We didn't do anything." Spencer looks at Emily and says, "Don't talk to them." Emily looks at Spencer and says, "I'll talk to anybody I want to." Spencer says, "No, you won't." Emily says, "And who's gonna stop me?" Avery says, "Both of you just shut up. I don't wanna hear it anymore." Emily looks at Spencer and says, "Did you at least think about my idea?" Spencer says, "It was a bad idea when they arrested us... it's a bad idea now." Emily says, "We finally have something solid. Why won't you use it?" Spencer says, "Because you can't make a deal with a rattlesnake." Emily says, "You can if you have something the rattlesnake wants." Hanna says, "Can we stop talking about snakes?" Spencer looks at Emily and says, "Listen to me. We're not going to be making any kind of a deal with A. That's final." Emily says, "Maybe for you. The rest of us don't have lawyers for parents." Spencer says, "Meaning what?" Emily says, "Meaning your mom may have gotten us a deal but if they ever figure out a way to charge us for killing Ali, she'll throw the rest of under the bus to save you... and you'd let her." Spencer then throws her bag of trash at Emily and Emily gasps and starts fighting with Spencer and Avery and Hanna are shocked their fighting and they try to break it up, but then two officers come over and rip Emily and Spencer apart.
