Chapter 6: Never Letting Go

All the girls are in Emily's bedroom and Avery says, "Why would "A" show us that part of the video?" Hanna says, "To keep us distracted for when the next attack is launched." Emily says, "Or tell us there's more to what happened that night." Spencer says, "Guys, Ian tried to kill me in the bell tower to get back his perverted videos and he went after Ali for the same reason." Emily says, "Yeah, but "A" had us convinced that Ian killed Alison and now it's, what, two miles from the kissing rock to Ali's house. I mean, did she turn off the camera and walk home in the dark, alone?" Hanna says, "Yeah, someone could've been waiting for her and surprised her when she got home." Emily says, "Like who?" Spencer says, "Like Ian. And, just because he didn't kill Alison at the kissing rock doesn't mean that he didn't do it an hour later." Hanna says, "If Ian didn't kill Ali, did 'A'?" No one answers Hanna and Hanna changes the subject saying, "So, uh, did you invite Ezra to the show?" Avery says, "No, he's out of town presenting a paper at a conference. Did you invite Caleb?" Hanna says, "Why would I do that?" Spencer says, "Because you kissed him." Emily says, "How was it?" Hanna says, "Well, I wore the total wrong gloss. You know the kind that looks wet, but it's really sticky?" Emily makes a disgusted face and says, "Oof, the wads of hair get stuck to your mouth." Avery says, "It's all fun and sexy till somebody hacks up a hairball." Spencer says, "Hey, could we please keep folding? I needed these done yesterday, and I've already missed a million committee meetings." Then Avery's phone rings and the girls look wary at Avery and Avery says, "Can I get it? It's just a text." Spencer says, "If it's from Ezra, then yes." Emily smiles at Spencer and says, "Wow. Toby has turned our boss into a romantic." Spencer's taken back and she says, "I was always a romantic! You know, under a thin veneer of pragmatism and... a few shockingly bad choices." Avery looks at her phone and then looks up at the girls and says, "Um, guys... I'm going to go deal with this." Avery walks away and looks at her phone to see a text message from Jason saying, "Can we meet? Now?" Spencer says, "Tell Ezra, we say 'Hi.'" The girls chuckle and Avery smiles and then looks back at her phone and texts back yes. Then Avery leaves Emily's and sees Jason in his car and she walks up to and says, "Hey, what's up?" Jason says, "Can I talk to you for a second?" Avery nods and gets into Jason's car and looks at Jason wondering what's up. Jason sighs and says, "Look. I said some things after the funeral that I probably should have kept to myself." Avery says, "I thought that you felt better knowing that Ian had--" Jason cuts her off and says, "Well, so did I, but... I don't want people getting the wrong idea, you know?" Avery nods and says, "Yeah. You have my word that I won't say anything. And, plus, the way you handled things with my brother, I... kind of owe you one. I have to get back, we're, uh... folding programs for the fashion show." Jason says, "Ah. My mom gets in tomorrow. One final speech before she steps down from the board." Avery says, "I thought Jessica DiLaurentis was the board." Jason says, "She only joined because of my sister. Ali lived for that fashion show." Avery nods and softly says, "Yeah. I should go." Avery gets out of the car and walks back over to Emily's.
