Julie's POV
Julie was woken abruptly by the loudest thunderclap she'd ever heard. It shook the house, her room, her bed, and she shot up, breathing heavily.
Her heart was pounding and she jumped when another boom sounded, almost just as loud. Julie had always hated storms, and she often ran to her parents room, but Ray was on a business trip. Victoria was staying over in his place. She knew her aunt didn't enjoy being woken up so she slid out of bed, flicking her bedroom lights instead.
She and the guys had come up with a code, flick three times for all of them and two for Luke, since she wanted to see him alone sometimes. If they were paying attention they would be able to see the light from the garage window.
Julie was getting anxious by her third time of double flicks when her boyfriend poofed into her room, a worried look on his face.
"Hey, you okay?" Luke held his arms open and she went into them.
"I hate storms." Her voice was muffled against his shoulder as she spoke, fisting her hands in his shirt.
"Oh, you want me to stay with you?" Luke asked. She nodded as he ran a comforting hand over her hair and hummed, "c'mere."
He walked her over to the bed and they crawled under the covers. She pulled the comforter up over her shoulder, cuddling as close to him as she could without actually laying on him.
Luke settled into the pillows with her, wrapping an arm around her back and tapping a rhythm on her shoulder. She tried to focus on the beat of his fingers, the rise and fall of his chest, the warmth of his body-instead of the noise. No matter how drowsy she got, how far she drifted off, the thunder never failed to shake her awake again.
"Okay, um," Julie sat up, frazzled by the storm, "talk to me or something to distract me, just laying here makes it worse."
He seemed surprised by her outburst but laid a gentle hand on her arm, coaxing her back down. This time they laid on their sides, facing each other.
"What do you want me to talk about?" He questioned.
"Well the point is for you to talk, not to ask me." A smile played on her lips. "Um, tell me what you like about me."
"Oh, I'll be talking for a while." He grinned and she laughed lightly.
He took a moment to think. "I um...I like your eyes, your smile and the little gap between your teeth-"
She covered her mouth, "don't talk about it!"
"Shut up, it's adorable." He moved closer to her when another rumble sounded, wrapping an arm around her, tucking the other under her pillow.
"I like...your lips."
"Can we move the topic off of my mouth?" She smirked, tapping his nose.
"Or maybe we could move the topic off of talking?"
"Oh that was so smooth." She joked.
"It was wasn't it?" He urged her face up and kissed her slowly. She shifted closer to him, their bodies almost touching, a hand resting on his chest while the other reached up to tangle in his hair.
Julie distantly noticed the sound of thunder, but it was as if everything in the world was dimmed when they kissed.
Eventually Luke ended it, drawing out the last little kiss before resting his forehead against hers.
"I think that works better than talking." Julie whispered, a little breathless.
He chuckled, brushing his nose against hers, tightening his arms around her waist. Julie cuddled in closer as he rolled halfway onto his back nuzzling her face into the crook of his neck.
They murmured "I love you's," and he kissed the top of her head.
Finally, with the comfort of Luke's arms around her, she began to drift off again, the storm having moved into the distance.
