Julie's POV

"Okay he's here! Get in your places! Hurry!" Julie scrambled away from the studio door, jumping behind a chair.

Alex and Willie were behind the drums, Ray and Carlos behind the piano, Flynn behind the couch, and Reggie thinking he was hidden behind a plant. When Luke walked into the room they all leapt out and yelled, "SURPRISE!"

Luke startled, his eyes going wide, but he slowly grinned as he took in the decorations and the accessories his friends had on.

They began to sing a drawn out and dramatic happy birthday song, the guys whooping after every verse. Luke was laughing by the end of it when they all joined together and wrapped their arms around him.

"Thank you guys, that was great, this is great." Luke threw his arms over Julie and Reggie.

"Oh that's not all, mi amigo." Reggie smirked, leading Luke over to a table in the corner that was decked out with streamers, presents, and cake.

"We actually probably should've waited until lighting the candle to sing happy birthday but oh well," Alex smiled, sparking a flame atop the single wick on the chocolate cake.

"So does this mean you're nineteen? Or like, forty three?" Willie queried, taking a place next to Alex.

"Oh that's weird to think about." Reggie's eyes widened. "So we're like, the same age as Ray. Julie, you're boyfriend's old enough to be your dad."

"Surprisingly that's not all that uncommon nowadays." Flynn smirked.

"Uh, let's stick with nineteen, okay?" Luke grinned, obviously growing a bit impatient.

The friends continued to debate and Julie watched as Luke rolled his eyes with exasperation and blew out the candle. For a split second while everyone was still preoccupied a pained look crossed his face as he watched the smoke billow away from the wick. At first Julie thought she imagined it, because when he met her eyes Luke was himself again, smirking at her. She knew him well enough to know his facade when she saw it though.

At a closer look she was starting to think that maybe he wasn't okay. In fact he looked a bit like he'd been crying, and the smile he was giving everyone didn't exactly reach his eyes.
