Julie's POV
The night air crackled with a mixture of delight and anticipation as the boys poofed Julie and Flynn in a shimmering flare outside Carrie's mansion.
"Ready?" Julie asked everyone, smoothing down her witch's cape, her heart thumping against her ribs. Having this as the guys' first public exposure was more nerve wracking than ordering food without rehearsing the order first.
"Born ready, Witchy," Reggie—ever the vampire—winked, fangs gleaming in the moonlight.
"Though I'm still not sure about this 'public' part." Alex shuddered. "Lifers are so touchy-feely."
"Don't worry," Reggie assured him, "they'll be too busy gawking at our awesome costumes."
"Um—okay..."
Luke adjusted the fur around his collar, a touch of excitement in his eyes. "Just try not to freak anyone out, guys."
The others' chorus of "Don't worry, we got this!" and "We're professionals!" echoed before they approached the colossal oak door, where Carrie, still pink clad as Barbie, stood waiting.
"Welcome Julie & The Phantoms," she cooed, the epitome of 'unimpressed', which surprised Julie. Sure it wasn't exactly warm but it was a far cry from the Carrie she'd come to know: a queen bee who ruled with a sneer.
For her it was oddly welcoming, along with the fact that she'd offered them this chance to perform at her Halloween bash.
Julie, for once, didn't feel the need to scramble for a comeback as she ushered the boys past that critical eye.
