What's that smell?

My head feels so hot right now. The sensation slowly flows down the back of my neck, down my back and travels to the tip of my fingers. I flinch as it does—or try to.

I feel myself moving but when I look down, every part of me is still. The feeling is so outer body.

The cough I let out immediately makes my throat ache. When I squeeze my eyes shut and shoot my eyelids open, that's when I realize my blurry sight.

Then my minimal hearing.

Things slowly begin to register and by the time my vision becomes clear, all I can see is broken glass and smoke. I turn my head to the side and the door is completely caved in on my leg. The car is laying on the driver's side from what I can see-and feel.

I'm hanging slightly from the ground. My left side is barely rested on the door.

The taste of blood is poignant in my mouth.

I turn in the other direction, the immobility of my neck hindering my movements.

Jade

Jade?

"Jade," I manage to mumble. She's hanging above me from the passenger side.

So much blood coming from her head. So much happening but still, I can't hear a sound. "Jade," I say again. My brain sends signals to my body to try and touch her but the dots just don't connect.

I'm stuck.

"Jade answer me, please," I try to say a bit louder. She doesn't budge. I mean...at all. I don't even see her chest move up and down the way it should.

I'm panicking.

"Jade, please," I say again before going silent.

Justice

My baby...no.

I don't even register the sharp pain that shoots through neck until I've completely whipped my head around to the back of the car.

"Justice," I turn to find an empty car seat. My heart leaps out of my chest. I try to slow down my breaths but I can hardly focus on my breathing.

"Justice?" I say again.

I look around the back of the car and it's completely empty. The door facing the sky is wide open and the back door behind my side is also caved in. I immediately begin to hyperventilate as I try to unbuckle my seatbelt.

This time, the dots do connect.

I struggle to unbuckle myself and I can feel my chest caving in on me.

"Help!" I scream for someone to come to my aid. I can't hear nor can I see Justice. The worst things come to mind and all of my motherly instincts over power any sense of pain I should be feeling right now.

"Jade?" I give up on the belt for a second and try to shake Jade once more. She still does not budge. Set off in complete trepidation, I scream loudly. We need help.

I need to get to someone.

"Someone please!" I scream. My hysterical cries are silenced once I hear the sound of footsteps approaching me. The footsteps are loud and slow. My breathing slows as I focus on them. "I'm stuck. I need help...and my baby-

The person approaches the car and I can see their body but their face isn't visible.

"My niece is unconscious," I try and help him assess the situation so he can move accordingly. "Please call an ambulance," I say but he doesn't say a word.
