Fallen Giant

In the heart of Africa,
Lay a giant Nigeria,
Whose mighty hands reached out-
And brought her downfall about.

She traded her resources for nothing and lost her pride,
Like that of a dishonoured bride.
Were her eyes clouded with the dark enchanting mist of greed?
For now she reaps the sorrowful fruit of her seed.

Thirst, poverty, hunger and brutality- we her citizen suffer,
Making us to cry out in sheer pain and boiling anger,
For we shouted end SARS,
Lo and behold, we were put behind bars.

We try to console ourselves with superstitions-
Of angry gods punishing the nation.
But at average citizens are the gods angry?
Or at ruthless politicians who spill blood for money?

Nigeria our alma-matter,
Who we often flatter-
With the phrase 'Giant of Africa'
Might as well be fallen like Lucifer

I wrote this a long long time ago after the end SARS protest where people where brutally massacred at the toll gate.

May their souls rest in peace.
I have no idea why I never published it here.
